As always, this community is financially supported by my tiny company, @write_as, so we'll always be able to keep the lights on. But for now we'll have to fall back on that funding until we can make up for this shortfall.
Ultimately though, we always want to keep this community independently funded directly by the people who share and socialize here.
Our #WritingExchange community has been running for almost eight years! But as our little writing space has grown, so have our hosting costs.
Many members of the community have contributed to help keep this space sustainable -- if you have, thank you so much!
But after catching up on our accounting today, we're essentially back at $0 in our Writing Exchange fund, with only 45% of our annual hosting costs covered by current donors.
Hashtag case matters! If a tag has more than one word then "CamelCase" helps screen readers correctly read tags to people using assistive technology.
If anyone on #WritingExchange finds that their Mastodon client keeps lower-casing their hashtags, suggesting tags with speelling errors, inappropriate suggestions etc. then please @ me as I'm doing some trawling to tidy up the most common ones, and to make sure they are allowed to show up in the Trending feature at https://writing.exchange/explore/tags

Ok, I feel better about my essay now. I made a few more changes. I stuck the landing a little better. I kept in mind some things said in the Roxane Gay youtube (see earlier post). I am going to do this. Mastodon, you're my writing confessor. Also, my ice cream temptation confessor.
There are no hard and fast rules here, no ledger; it's an ever-evolving process.
Particularly for our instance, #WritingExchange, I'd just ask you to contribute to this community, and not just use it as a free marketing channel -- *especially* if you're larger than a one-person organization.

Ok, bear with the Toot #newbie … I picked a random server when I joined because I had no clue, and only just realised there’s a #writingexchange server. How do I change? I see something about invitations floating around? Does it even matter what server I’m on?
