@arrjay because the #HIDman by @rasteri is a pretty solid project and since most of these boards don't handle #USB-#HID well and I want to check PS/2 compatibility and function without needing to hookup my #ModelM all the time, this is a transparent solution for all OSes one would want.

  • Plus someone already did a HIDman card that does just spit out USB ports on a PCI/ISA bracket.

Thus it makes total sense to go with it: "Why reinvent the wheel when there are rims and tires ready to roll?"

@pgcd @WillA763 Obviously the #VIC20 did predate modern keyboard layout conventions that the #ModelM (Actually #ModelF, but noone but the followers of #chyrosran22 will know!) implemented and that got copied since then...

#Commodore did OFC design the entire #Ecosystem and aside from #Software didn rule over it with iron fist, so at that time noone "knew" better...

@louisgrasset At least I am self-aware that actually giving a shit about the #Envoirment and not wanting to waste € 2k on an unrepariable piece of #ManufactureEwaste that constantly spies on you and supports literal slave labour is a "nieche case" ...

Make of that what you will, but if people don't voice their demands then noone is gonna listen.

And yes, "nieches cases are valid" may it be the #ModelM keyboard or some actually #maintainable & #repairable #tech...

  • IDK if you just gave up and "consoom yourself happy" or not, but I guess I've to add this to my laundry list of #projects to do...

And yes, I'd rather #Ghettohack myself some "#JankTech" #Chonker phone instead of giving up!

Continued thread

Two weeks later and I am still luxuriating in the experience every time I sit down to start typing on this thing.

It's like I had years to become accustomed to how much more slow and tentative I was when typing on the more modern keyboards that rattled and shook and (very slightly) moved around on my computer table.

Now my typing speed is up by at least 30% because the keys are always PRECISELY where they were the last time my fingers came down.

Pure joy.

I need help, my Model M keyboard doesn't seem to be working, I'm not sure why, but the ground wire seems to be broken/disconnected, I don't know where it's supposed to connect to though
