#WordWeavers 2407.08 — Is there a person you’d love to show your writing to but are afraid to do it? Why?

You might characterize it as fear.

I know thought my spouse a successful erotic romance writer whose name I choose not to drop, once traditionally published but now self-publishing. We discussed her business before I retired. I said I'd talk with her again when I was ready to return to commercial publishing. Inklings is a project in her genre, a fantasy genre cross-over for me, and I really want to complete at least a first draft to prove to myself that I can complete this type of story. It's half done. I feel that I need a completed story to feel right about "wasting" her time with questions and requesting advice. I want to be able to quickly act upon what I will have learned.

Some aspects of the story are proving hard.

No pun intended. 😉

Try This Simple Trick To Determine Reliable Service

I like to think of the help desk for any organization kind of like car insurance. You sure hope you never need it (them), but if you do, you want them to take care of you. When the technology is powering your business, you need it to be extra reliabl

Think you’re bad at marketing? I don’t think so.

When I talk with authors, whether it's for #WriteTalkWednesday or just in community, one of the things nearly everyone says is "I'm bad at marketing." And it's true for many writers, heck many people in general, promoting our work and tootin

The Fallacy of a One Size Fits All Publishing Paradigm

If you listen to those who bill themselves as experts, they'll tell you that there's one way to make it as an author. There are groups which tell you that if you produce a certain number of books, you'll be making a five-figure income. They'll talk about things

NPR has shown that it’s okay to leave X

I admit that I've been hesitant to leave X. I'm also not going to lie that I've been advocating for it, and I believe that if you remain active on the platform then you're indirectly supporting the hate and hatred that seems to have taken over the platform. But also, I get it. You have a certain n

Simple Ways For Authors to Add Value to Their Newsletters

Recently I read an excellent email from a solopreneur about the best way to market through newsletters without annoying or bombarding the recipients. It was so refreshing to hear this "BNP" (big name person) say what I'd had been thinking and articulating what drives me to unsubscribe

How To Decide Which Social Media Platforms to Use

With the recent news that X/Twitter is looking to charge all users a monthly fee; therefore, putting every single account behind a paywall, once again people are looking to recalibrate their social media strategy. Numerous Twitter competitors have popped up, th

Why You Can’t Fail At Publishing

A newsletter hit my inbox a few days ago. The subject line? Why you've already failed at publishing. I looked at it, checked to be sure if I've read it correctly (I had!), blinked a couple of times, and thought "well that was a choice for a headline." And then I got mad.

There are a

Twitter is removing the ability to block. Here’s what it means.

An August 18th Tweet (Xeet?) from the current owner of Twitter/X confirmed what we'd all feared. Blocking would be taken away as a feature, further allowing Twitter/X to platform hate and spew propaganda at its remaining users. As a personal and a business decision, I'd a

Alternatives to Patreon That Give You Control

Recently Patreon screwed over a bunch of its creators. I know that's a harsh thing to say, but it's true. Due to their desire to transfer their billing from California to Ireland (which is well known for beneficial corporate tax rates), many recurring membe
