Something has been chewing through the default 1GB swap partition on my #OpenMediaVault 7 machine, while RAM usage only sits around 30%. My Docker containers restart daily around backups, and the swap empties out then... So probably one of those are to blame.

The main Debian OS swappiness is already set to 1.

Hmm.. Grow the swap partition, switch to a swapfile, cut off Docker access to swap? Choices...

Setting up WebDAV on OpenMediaVault was pretty simple and it's silly that I didn't do it before!

Pulling my hair out.

OMV 7 on an Argon Eon PiNAS (rPi4, see link below), photoprism via OMV plugin.
"photoprism index" starts, and then after a few seconds hard-reboots the host.

Nothing on console, in syslog, in journal.
Anyone got ideas where to look next?

Ich habe da mal etwas für #FragDasFediverse.

Da meine #Synology DS710+ inzwischen auch schon 12 Jahre oder mehr auf dem Buckel hat, mache ich mir langsam Gedanken über eine mögliche Nachfolge. Ich nutze mein #NAS hauptsächlich für Urlaubsvideos und Urlaubsfotos.

Dabei überlege ich mir, ob ich mir wieder eine Synology hole oder u. U. ein #Qnap Gerät. Die Frage ist nur, ob ein Qnap wesentliche Vorteile gegenüber einer Synology mitbringt oder ober dass Jacke wie Hose ist?

Ebenso schwirren mir Gedanken über ein Selbstbau-NAS im Kopf herum. Es gibt da ja #TrueNAS und #Openmediavault. Welche Vor- bzw. Nachteile haben die beiden genannten Lösungen gegenüber? Gibt es noch andere Softwarelösungen? Wäre für so etwas ein #RaspberryPi bzgl. Leistung ausreichend?

Was mir noch wichtig wäre, dass man mit diesem NAS auch so etwas wie #SabNZBD, #Nextcloud o. ä. installieren und nutzen kann. Ob dies dann über #Docker oder einer anderen Lösung genutzt wird, ist mir jetzt erst einmal egal.

Was ist mir noch wichtig:
- Der Stromverbrauch sollte sich in Grenzen halten
- Die Installation und Wartung sollte keine 87 Semester IT-Studium benötigen
- Was spricht für eine Selbstbau-Lösung, was dagegen?
- Habe ich bei meinen Überlegungen etwas übersehen?

Apparently #OpenMediaVault forgot to renew their URL on openmediavault dot org. Which gets pinged for software updates.

Maaan, I don't have the energy to transition to TrueNAS right now if this software gets maliciously taken over...

Mit #OpenMediaVault erreiche ich jetzt genau den Zustand, den ich mir eigentlich von #Nextcloud erhofft hatte: 12 GB Mediendaten geschrieben und das Hostsystem zuckt nur müde mit den Schultern.

Just moved 4 #RAID-ed drives from a physical 2-core #NAS to one of my #ProxMox servers into a VM running #OpenMediaVault. The old #SAMBA shares have been recreated, the docker service running #PsiTransfer restarted, and everything is working.

Phew!

#Nextcloud ist mit seinem virtual File Sync einfach zu langsam.
Wenn ich meine Mediathek (<300 GB) von #Apple aus dem Internet exportiere, braucht es eine halbe Ewigkeit, bis der Desktop-Client das auf den Server gesynced hat und die Dateien auf dem Gerät wieder freigegeben hat.
Bis dahin ist mir die Platte vollgelaufen und der Export bricht mit einem Fehler ab.

Ich teste jetzt mal #OpenMediaVault, in der Hoffnung, damit weiterzukommen.

Got the #NAS part of my home server back up and running at the new place, but now I need to get the #yunohost VM back on the network which required some doing the first time around, maybe on the weekend I'll get it going again. I'm missing some of my services already though.

I have a personal cloud. It's that thing right there.

Safely at home behind a NAT but reachable over Tailscale for SMB shares and a reverse proxy on an Oracle VPS for NextCloud.

This was hell. I can't believe I actually made it work.

Now this was some serious ninja docker thing, at least for me.

Glad I watched Inception and understood it.
