It’s raining today (on and off) so I fired up the forge.

Initially I was going to make a belt buckle, but the material I had wasn’t behaving so I ditched that for now and started on this instead.

I’ve been playing a lot of KCDII lately and figured I might try either a Knight’s Axe or a polearm. Either way, I needed to make an eye, which is as far as I got today. The steel is a piece of truck leaf spring.

The forge in full swing. Flames about 30cm high with sparks at the top.
Hot metal bar. One end isolated for the axe blade and the eye section upset so it’s is thicker. The eye is mostly done.
Slightly wonky alignment but you can see the eye shape. Alignment can be fixed later. The eye is teardrop shaped.
My quench bucket has sprung a hole.

Before Cyclone Alfred, I packed up a lot of the blacksmithing area downstairs to avoid various bits and pieces becoming projectiles in the predicted winds. Since it's quite damp today, I figured it was a good time to put everything back in order and forge out a simple starter project to get back in the swing of things.

Thus, this S-Hook came in to being from a cut-off of 10mm reo (rebar).

A simple mild-steel S-Hook, forged from a length of 10mm reo (rebar). From the apex of each curve to the other is 15cm. and the hook opening space is 3cm. the hook depth is approximately 3.5cm. It has been wire-brushed, then hot-oil finished.
