Finally got a diy LoRa node up and running with a D1 mini / RFM95W. This took far to long to work out the right config to get everything to work together.
I’m going to Arctangent festival later this year and there is no cell signal so I’m taking these three Heltecs and giving two of them to close friends so I can find them at the festival!
I’m going to be running Meschore on all three (my experience of Meshtastic is it sucks all of the air out of the room and good luck sending a message to any of those contacts you found).
So if anyone else is going and wants to hop on the same mesh, this is your heads up!

Estoy investigando sobre #meshtastic y voy a montar un nodo solar autónomo.
Básicamente #meshtastic usa el protocolo #LoRa, para crear una red en malla.
Se puede usar la frecuencia #868mhz (Frecuencia libre), con cifrado #aes256 para enviar mensajes por radiofrecuencia.
Con la app #meshtastic u nodos con teclado incorporado.
Yo he empezado con dos nodos #heltec v3.
Pero el nodo solar lo voy a hacer con un nodo #rak 4631 y 19003, debido a su bajo consumo.
Es una opción ideal, para comunicaciones #offgrid y de emergencia.

@venya Spend some time of meshchat earlier this week too. I really hope #reticulum will support stand-alone #lora rnodes in the future. Getting a proper mesh up is hard enough. But I’ll probably not convince folks to build their own custom headless raspberry pi rnodes en masse.
Keep going down alternative / mesh communications rabbit holes
This system is built on #Reticulum which means it will work basically the same (just slower) on #LoRA as it does on TCP/IP

I think the best thing about the home made nodes I've been using is that it's durable enough to carry almost daily. But flexible enough that I can do tons of experiments with external antennas and temporary installations in client mode or repeater.
The big one especially has crazy battery life and can run all week.
The other thing that rocks about this build is that it can be assembled with no soldering so its about as noob friendly as DIY hardware gets.
Meshcore is working well enough in Seattle that now adoption is the largest issue to having a more robust LoRa mesh network.
So if you're in the PNW area and want to build a solid handheld LoRa radio to try out meshcore I've made a bill of materials for my go to portable build LoRa plans.

Some results from a week of there being a meshcore repeater on Cougar mountain.
A lot of us can now hear around 80 radios throughout the Seattle / Tacoma region.
The public chat channel is extremely busy at various times throughout the day.
I've been able to DM people in Tacoma and connect to their chat servers all the way from Seattle.
Some routes are extremely stable, meanwhile others are more flaky. It's super exciting!

Found out the hard way today that those #lilygo devices like T-Beam have wifi, but not on 5GHz
Good news is that 1 station received my beacons from work qth ground floor, small aerial for #70cm that came with the device.
Wonder what freq on 2 and 23 and 13 cm we can use for #lora and #loraaprs
Today for the first time my igate got on to the general aprs.fi map!
Joined the Wellington mesh tonight!
Communicated with a friend ~60km away, over the Remutaka Range, using Meshtastic (LoRa @ 915Mhz) instead of the internet.
