@venya Spend some time of meshchat earlier this week too. I really hope #reticulum will support stand-alone #lora rnodes in the future. Getting a proper mesh up is hard enough. But I’ll probably not convince folks to build their own custom headless raspberry pi rnodes en masse.
This is probably the simplest and most user-friendly introduction to #RNS (#Reticulum network stack)
https://github.com/liamcottle/reticulum-meshchat
It even builds network maps for you on the fly.
Right now I'm just using my internet service, but it would also route through a LoRA radio transceiver properly configured. Or any other communications interface.
Keep going down alternative / mesh communications rabbit holes
This system is built on #Reticulum which means it will work basically the same (just slower) on #LoRA as it does on TCP/IP

Maybe we can establish connection with #reticulum over lora #lowtech mesh networks /?!
First this weekend continue our training in https://tbd.camp

My evaluation of resilient and disturbed means of communication started today #meshnetworks. I received my #LoRa radio board and installed #meshcore. No contact to other nodes yet, but I’m also not sure what to expect. Let’s see how it goes…
The next step will be #reticulum, but it looks too advanced to be a good starting point for me.
Looking to see if anybody on Masterdong is using Reticulum at all? I've been using Meshtastic but wondering whether to keep going with that and perhpas just go all in with Reticulum. I use LoRa but I also use portable analog and digital radio. Would be interested in learning how I can use digital radio (DMR) with Reticulum. #Reticulum #Meshtastic #LoRa #DMR
Connected and tapping! With the Raspberry Pi Zero W 2, a Waveshare e-paper touch hat and a decent amount of coding, we have a device that can read the announce stream for NomadNet.
(a back-up to an eventual authoritarian-style #internetshutdown will need a system installed and functioning before it happens)
The protocol design and reference implementation for #Reticulum was carried out between 2014 and 2022 by Mark Qvist:
"The #Reticulum Protocol is the shared property of all people, I contribute it to the #publicdomain.
Dedicated with hope and belief in the future freedom and prosperity of all, on Earth and beyond.
Thank You"
@00Aaron I think #meshtastic is not encrypted actually.. if you want encrypted network, then check #reticulum .. btw. Do you have some photos and parts to build it? :)
#Reticulum #helltec tx on 868.525
spread factor 12
bandwith 125KHz
encode 5
checked by #qradiolink with #hackrf
#hamradio I learned 433.775 12/125/5 is aprs on #LORA so must fetch some hardware for that!
Working on something for Reticulum/NomadNet. It's a little script that takes CalDAV subscriptions and turns them into linked micron pages. If the internet ceased to function in your town tomorrow, what networked features would you like to see that could be supported by 1.07kbps?
"Reticulum is the cryptography-based networking stack for building local and wide-area networks with readily available hardware. Reticulum can continue to operate even in adverse conditions with very high latency and extremely low bandwidth.
The vision of Reticulum is to allow anyone to operate their own sovereign communication networks, and to make it cheap and easy to cover vast areas with a myriad of independent, interconnectable and autonomous networks.
Reticulum is Unstoppable Networks for The People.
Reticulum is not one network. It is a tool for building thousands of networks. Networks without kill-switches, surveillance, censorship and control. Networks that can freely interoperate, associate and disassociate with each other.
Reticulum is Networks for Human Beings.
From a users perspective, Reticulum allows the creation of applications that respect and empower the autonomy and sovereignty of communities and individuals. Reticulum provides secure digital communication that cannot be subjected to outside control, manipulation or censorship.
Reticulum enables the construction of both small and potentially planetary-scale networks, without any need for hierarchical or beaureucratic structures to control or manage them, while ensuring individuals and communities full sovereignty over their own network segments.
(...)
It is not possible to establish unencrypted links in Reticulum networks.
It is not possible to send unencrypted packets to any destinations in the network."

Spain power cuts - fortunately we are somewhat prepared with solar electricity, cash supplies, 15000 litres of water storage, fuel in car & about a months worth of dehydrated meals . In case of a zombie apocalypse
or natural disaster we also have walkie talkies, LoRa radios & I have been developing off-grid networks (experimenting with #Meshtastic, #Meshcore & #Reticulum)
.
Bit of a wake up call though - prepare for these events no matter how far fetched they seem. They can and do happen.
In a world where control of #communication networks is increasingly centralized, #DIYnetworks offer an independent alternative. This presentation shows how to build up your own autonomous #meshNetworks with low-cost hardware components and open source tools such as #Reticulum and #MeshChat. We will present practical steps for the construction, configuration and integration of sensors, communication and computing power. We are also discussing how such #networks can be used in #humanitarianCrises, such as the organisation of aid measures through solidarity initiatives.

This workshop offers a detailed journey through the world of do-it-yourself radio networks and #autonomousCommunication structures. Using an exemplary system structure, we show how to realize cost-effective, flexible mesh networks with #LoRa #RNode, Reticulum and MeshChat. In doing so, we not only dedicate ourselves to the technical requirements – such as the optimal hardware selection, antenna adaptation and network planning (keyword “Network Planning 101”) – but also consider how these technologies can be used for #humanitarian purposes, for example at #CADUS.

At the risk of igniting some controversy, but hopefully stimulating debate, I’d like to ponder the question: #Meshtastic and #LoRa mesh networks in general, #MeshCore, #Reticulum etc. … Are they “Amateur Radio”? #HamRadio - I know the technical UK answer “No, unless on 433MHz with the “Licensed Operator” setting on, with amateur license; no encryption, so no Reticulum allowed”. I’ll leave the question a bit open like that without further qualifications. Please boost for visibility! 73 Matt
I learned about #Reticulum recently from the video of this talk from CCC: https://media.ccc.de/v/38c3-reticulum-unstoppable-networks-for-the-people
Recently went to a mesh night at #Foulab and got to play with Reticulum over the internet and #LoRa and now I am hooked.
And there is a fantastic Mesh Day event happening in May, presented by @MTL_ATC as part of @constellation !
