Did you know? If you use materialized views in #postgresql, you ... probably can't restore backups created by pg_dump

I just hit this. Had materialized views which assumed that the search path was set to 'public' (which is the default, it's the schema all your tables are).

Upon restoring, the search path is cleared. Then materialized views are refreshed. This fails, because the search path isn't set to 'public'.

This is horrifying... #databases #postgres #sysadmin

🪨🛠️ New Post: "Superbase on the Commodore 64"

Ready to transform your radical 80s business into a "paperless office" and ditch those antiquated filing cabinets? You're going to need a database to make that happen. Luckily, Superbase is available on your family computer, ready to help you build an "office of the future."

If only its manual were better at explaining how to use it.

Stone Tools · Superbase on the Commodore 64In the 70s and 80s, the "office of the future" remained tantalizingly close, ever slightly out of reach, but definitely almost here. I'll commandeer the family C64 and rebuild my business into a "paperless office," if a certain surprise mystery villian doesn't foil my plan. (dramatic musical sting!)

While doing a bibliometric analysis, I noticed something strange – recent papers from 🇹🇷 scholars seemed to disappear from my dataset. The reason? The country officially changed its name to #Türkiye, no longer wishing to be associated with turkey (the bird).

Names and identities matter. Respecting them is essential, and so is being careful with citation databases whose metadata is not always reliable.

"The New York Police Department has quietly built one of the most expansive, integrated #surveillance systems in the nation’s history. What began as a patchwork of #cameras and #databases has evolved into a $3 billion “Domain Awareness System” or (DAS)- capable of tracking, recording, and predicting the movements of millions of people, most of whom have never been accused of a crime."

I do not want a #government to surveil citizens as if they are criminals.
