Scientific study finds that #adtech IS using browser #fingerprinting to track people and so it no longer matters so much how good you are at blocking #cookies and #trackers 😒

They call on browser makers to do more. @jon is your team putting effort into this area?

@johnnyryan I suggest this area is added to your investigations since it is linked to the #RTB system and #databrokers 🙏

Yesterday I started participating in a study about #browserfingerprinting where I can test several browsers with various configurations. And it shows, if it can link my session to an older one.

The only linkable Browser until now (2 tests with same browser) has been #vanadium browser.

I test on the following...
...on Windows 10:
- Edge as my Company installed it
- Chrome as my company installed it with uBlockOrigin in hard mode
- Firefox with uBlock in hard mode
- Firefox with Arkenfox and uBlock in Medium mode

...on my GrapheneOS Pixel:
- Firefox focus without JS
- Firefox nightly with uBlock in medium mode
- Vanadium
- Brave

@fen @elilla #Microsoft demanding #TPM only serves them to force #CensorBoot into systems and prevent people from switching to #Linux or setting up #DualBoot systems.

In terms of #BrowserFingerprinting: Use @torproject / #TorBrowser to give #Google the finger!

Account #isolation #security (continues)

Account isolation doesn’t just have to be on the device level, but can also be done on the software level like the #browser.

The benefit of using multiple browsers is that #cookies cannot cross browsers: making the pesky #trackers be browser bound and making browser fingerprinting harder to achieve. This will give oneself an edge on personal data protection.

Some browsers have the option to use containers, though it can feel like the overview is quickly lost and potentially it could be a bigger strain on the device.

Browser suggestions:

One should choose the browser dependent on the login credentials one will be using. For example if one will be using Google services like #Gmail or #YouTube, then the obvious choice is Chrome.

@kreig In case anyone comes to this thread and wonders why you need to protect your hedgehog status or screen density, be sure to read to up on Browser Fingerprinting.

This sort of trackability isn’t obvious at first, as it would require so much data about so many people at once to be useful. But, yeah, they have that.
