What's a good piece of Mac software that lets me keep snippets of text and even images "on a shelf" somewhere for short periods of time. Useful for, for example, copy/paste jobs where I need to copy/paste multiple things at once and don't want to forever be flipping back and forth.

#UTM #hypervisor is my favorite #macOS platform (ok and #Win when I have to). So light, offers everything that I need and its super portable just like any other competitive solution out there.

Finished setting up my new #NuPhy #Air75 v3. It's great, there's a lot to love! I dig the typing feel, the sound is wonderfully muted, it's a very nice tool.

That said: The v3 seems unable to send a "real" `Fn`/Globe code to the Mac; that is some weak sauce. To make `Fn` work, I mapped the v3's "Fn" key to `Right Ctrl`, and then on #macOS used Karabiner to rewrite that to a proper `Fn`. Bit naff but it works.

I've disabled the RGB lighting entirely.

Also, NuphyIO's UI is a bit confusing

So, is the #Apple weather out for everyone else in Australia? At least for me, and someone else I was speaking to, it's working and not on #macOS & #iOS on a minute by minute basis.

The actual Weather app on macOS is currently only showing one Australian city as having weather statistics.

GitHub Actions is dropping Intel macOS by November.

(Cirrus dropped it in Dec 2022, CircleCI in June 2024, Travis CI dropped all(!) macOS in April, and Anaconda last week.)

CPython has dropped it to tier 2. What does this mean to you? Not too much; we still support it, produce installers, CI failures block releases.

It means we only test on buildbots and failures must be fixed/reverted within 24h rather than immediately.

How do I control which camera gets used in Tahoe FaceTime? #macOS

Unfortunately CrossOver Preview seems to have gotten rid of the "Display Settings" sidebar on the right which let you simulate different display geometries than what wine auto-detected, which was very helpful for on-the-go #Steam gaming on #macOS on my MBP since rarely does it detect proper 16:10 or 16:9.

I used this, for example, with #BluePrince to ensure the left and right sides of the display were not cropped.

As an odd, but very workable, alternative solution - if you get the free edition of BetterDisplay and have it create a Virtual Display of the aspect ratio you want and then enable it, you can go into Settings -> Displays and configure your built-in display as a mirror for the virtual display.

The net result will be that it forces your only real display to conform to match the mirrored alternative geometry. Doesn't seem to be too much of a performance impact so far, but I haven't tried it with any super intense games either yet.

But it's really too slow to use in JS emulation. I clicked iTunes a bit ago and it's still loading. OH, that's just like current macOS (rhymes with nachos), which is written in something dumber than JS emulation: SWIFT.

Is there a "TextEdit" kind of Mac app for MarkDown files? I just want to view a ".md" file in its rendered form with a simple app! Even better, be able to edit it both in source form and rendered WYSIWYG form. #macos

#Apple has always had the attitude, "We don't fix bugs unless it gets bad press or negatively affects the stock price. Our beloved Timbo must get his bonus."

Perhaps one of the worst bugs, by design, is that the #macOS Finder lies. In the middle of a copy it gives the wrong file size until completion. It doesn't properly refresh file listings on servers or even local directories. But Apple is so pigheaded that they refuse to provide a refresh key (F5) that Windows and Linux use. Grow up guys.
