The trickiest thing about going to a place you’ve never been before is to orientate oneself and work out where to begin. Here, a little help from #GPS and #OnlineMaps did come in handy but after that, it was back to analogue hardware – a #map and a #compass.
Starting on the road by around 9 am, there was a #footpath that led up the side of the valley into a #wood. In the #MorningLight, the #trees were illuminated by nicely.

On a recent trip, my car rental ended up being a Jeep Compass and I hated it.
Everything about it was mid, except the accelerator which might as well have been a euphemism for my teenage self's approach to foreplay.
Basically it goes from idle to and at the lightest pressure on the accelerator, the car leaps in to ludicrous speed giving passengers whiplash and dumping an unnecessary volume of dinosaur juice out to be choked on.

As it's a #BankHoliday #weekend, we went on a hike on #Dartmoor. I planned it to be a visit to somewhere I hadn't been before but starting off from a familiar location. In total, the excursion was 18 km of walking and took the best part of 6 hours with all the stops and breaks. As anyone who has walked here before, it's not to be done without preparation and having a good #map and #compass with you.
