I actually had three more short videos from my flight yesterday that I missed in my little compilation. These are from my flight yesterday and show much closer cloud surfing from the morning.
Caution: May have loud engine noise

A successful journey! My kid was thrilled to get to hang out in fire trucks. I had to take off into clouds and then most of the trip down there I was above the cloud layer. There was a VFR aircraft trying to scud run below me somewhere and knowing the terrain in that area I'm not sure that was a good idea with most fields being IFR. Looking at their ground track now, they were flying down a river.
Anyway, I did the RNAV LNAV 29 into KPDC, which got us just under the clouds. Big hill off the right side when you come out of the clouds (which is a little intimidating). We had a bit of a crowd watching us land and taxi in since only two aircraft flew in.
The way back was more exciting with storm buildups and having a long stretch in the middle with no radio contact (I think Madison approach has a bad transmitter). I was told by Chicago that they can hear me just fine so I pretty much just advised them what I was doing until I got far enough to contact Milwaukee. Then it was time to dodge buildups because I don't want to fly through storms. Easy as requesting 30 degrees left deviation. Landing at KATW was an uneventful visual approach.
Great day, but now it is hot and humid and I don't like that.
I am planning a flight to KPDC (Prairie du Chien, WI) tomorrow and it looks like I'll get to use my IFR rating to get there. They are hosting a fly-in/drive-in event: Wings Over PDC 2025!

„It′s raining men! Hallelujah. It′s raining men! Amen.“
Flew from KATW (Appleton, WI) to KAUW (Wausau, WI) to check out projects the local STEM group, Learn Build Fly, is up to. A fun Tuesday evening adventure of making sure I don't go near storms.
It was hot and humid today. On the return leg of my trip I was dodging buildups as storms starting initiating in central Wisconsin.
I flew out to Wausau, WI (KAUW) to check out what Learn Build Fly (STEM group with a focus on youth) has been up to. I haven't been there in a few years and they have been doing some very cool stuff! It is so neat to see so many kids getting excited about aviation, learning, STEM, and so on.
You can check them out at https://www.learnbuildfly.org/
I changed my flight plan yesterday due to storm forecasts and instead flew East to Lake Michigan and then back. Landing was uneventful except that when I was 10 miles out from the airport there was only one isolated storm cell. As I came around in the pattern only a few minutes later an entire line of storms had started to initiate and was looking pretty menacing. I reminded myself not to rush anything in the pattern and made a normal landing. I rolled up to get fuel and mid-fueling I could hear thunder in the distance which wasn't great in such a large open area. I quickly finished up fueling and taxied back to my hangar and put the plane inside. As I was closing the hangar door, a severe thunderstorm warning was issued for my area and my phone alarmed. Definitely cutting it kinda close on that one but thankful to have a hangar.
Also, that first picture is Lake Winnebago. It has been so hot here that there is a major algae bloom happening. This will end up killing fish and making quite the stink. It also looks gross.
Mit Bergen kann ich nicht dienen, aber Weser und Steinhuder Meer sind auch schön aus der Luft.
Zwei Rundflüge letzten Samstag, um Leuten aus der Gegend ihre Heimat von oben zu zeigen.

Todays evening flight - to #Neuchatel
Went flying last night with the 172’s owner to do some practice on the avionics and landings. Dropped him off to see his daughter’s softball game and took the plane back to MSN. Lower clouds but really nice night to fly.

Went flying this weekend with some club members. We got some new avionics in one of the planes and wanted to learn as a group (and get brunch). Great club event.
How my day has been spent so far:
I flew to KLOT from KATW today on a whim because our Young Eagle Rally was cancelled and it was a fun trip. I had to peck my way up through the clouds and then back down through the clouds on the way down. Going under Chicago class B was a mistake as it was bumpy and generally not fun. For the return trip I circled south of the Bravo to 10,500' and proceeded over the airspace which was a nice smooth ride.
Tricky things were the 40+ knot crosswinds, weird wind shear, 20 gusting 28 on landing. Continuous moderate turbulence below the cloud layer. I had to do a go around when I was landing at KATW because wowie what a challenge.
It was a cool day of flying, 4.9 on the Hobbs and I am very tired now. Also we have a heat advisory for Heat Indexes of 104F (40C) but it was nice at altitude. Putting the plane away and cleaning the wings and such in that heat had me dripping sweat.
I need to take a shower
Feature release day! I can finally show a thing I've been working on for a year and 9 months.
Pro plus subscriptions now have access to flight debrief and scoring information on our web interface. Happy flying!
I finished another page of my logbook. Between April 6th and June 11th of this year I managed:
39 Landings
26.4 Hours of flying time
14.8 Hours of Cross Country time
0.3 Hours of actual instrument conditions
So now I have:
640 Landings
364.7 Hours of flying time
138.8 Hours of Cross Country time
8.8 Hours of actual instrument conditions
I've gotten 41 hours this year, which is a lot more than normal for this time. I am loving everything about it (except the bills).
