I got reminded by @lynx to feed my #Protobean so i did! Some crunchy Z80s and other neat chips :)
This morning, I'd like to treat your eyes to a particularly rare specimen of the computer history. A #Yodobashi #Formula1, distributed in Germany by the company Schoppe&Faeser located in Minden. It was used as a "mobile" programming station for the company's early control systems.

Out there, in the worrying world of today is a little #Zilog #Z80 computer with a mere 64KB of #RAM and running the #1970s CP/M operating system.
This little machine is connected to the #intertubes and it's serving a #singleuser #bulletinboardsystem for you, the worrying souls of #yesteryears to visit.
Take a break from today, connect like it's 1985 - here on RC-BOX BBS, the world's first and (currently) only #rc2014 based bulletin board in the world!
Check out the #alttext or my #profile info on information on how to connect.

Doomsday prepping!
Sharp also joined the battle for the best home computer - a kind donor has given us an excellently preserved MZ-731 in its original packaging
It is powered by a Z80-compatible processor, addressing 64 KB of RAM, and features a built-in mini plotter and cassette deck.
The History of Zilog & Z80 - RetroBytes
The shortage of #Zilog chips is obviously hyped. RS clearly has enough stock for thousands of years!
LittleFuse (Zilog's parent company) took the last orders for the #Z80 yesterday.
After 48 years of constant production, #Zilog will no longer produce the Z80 as LittleFuse is unable to keep producing the current Z84Cxxxx series using the 4-micron (4000 nm) CMOS process.
The legendary chip, designed by the legendary Federico Faggin in 1976 was largely responsible for the microcomputer revolution and is still beloved by electronics hobbyists today.
It had one hell of an impact! RIP Z80

New FOSS project aims to develop Z80 drop-in replacement
As previously mentioned, I managed to get my hands on another #Enterprise64 from the mid 80s. I disassembled it yesterday and made sure it was in working order. Nothing noteworthy, apart from cleaning it up and snipping a couple of mm's of the super thin wire tape for the keyboard, which is notorious for breaking. Also, a 1MB memory expansion was added, which is is insane for a system that was born with 64K. It's now technically an #Enterprise1088 :-)
Developed in the UK, it comes with IS-BASIC, a word processor, has 256 colors, stereo sound, runs CP/M and reads FAT floppy disks. Pretty cool for a 40 year old system, eh?
This is my third Enterprise machine. Currently two are working - my original (S/N 000828) which was gifted to me back when my dad started importing them, and this latest one (S/N 030490). The third one is unfortunately dead at the moment.
Some 40 years ago, my dad took a leap and decided to import and resell the #Enterprise64 microcomputer from the United Kingdom. This was indeed the era of the "micro", and lots of options were available like the #Spectrum, #Amstrad, #NewBrain, #Lynx and numerous others. Unfortunately competition was hard, and the Enterprise was delayed for almost a year. Eventually they went bankrupt and all stock was exported to Eastern Europe where it got a second life among some very hard core enthusiasts. Very few were actually sold in Denmark - I would assume less then a hundred - and today I managed to get my hands on the third one in my collection. Inherited from his dad, the seller had no idea what to use this for. It's very much a special item, and very far from the mainstream like the Commodore 64. It is nevertheless a fascinating machine, sporting a #Zilog #Z80 with support for up to 2MB RAM. The operating system also contained IS-BASIC, and was a bliss to work with.
Just realized that the last computer I paid full retail for was Z-80 based! Last year my oldest needed a TI-83 for a state test so I had to run out to Target the night before. Who would have thought! #z80 #zilog #ti #retrocomputing
