Supporting biodiversity at home is easy. By planting native species, letting wildflowers like dandelions thrive, or offering homes for insects, we can enhance biodiversity and protect vulnerable species. Read the article to explore practical steps for your own space, whether a garden or a flat.

A community-owned wind farm in the Outer Hebrides is funding a project to plant at least a million native trees on crofts by 2030. So far, 211,000 trees have been planted on 245 crofts to create small woods, promoting nature restoration and biodiversity.
+
The initiative is primarily funded by profits from the UK's largest community-owned wind farm near Stornoway. It generates £900,000 annually from three 3MW wind turbines. These profits are reinvested into local community projects, including the ambitious reforestation initiative.
+
This green energy project has already helped establish three new tree nurseries on the islands.
+
Crofters are in charge of planting on their own land, working with project advisors and forestry experts. The new woodlands feature a variety of species including alder, hazel, birch, rowan, and Scots pine. Some crofters have even included fruit orchards in their plantings.

Hello to all English speakers,
Our short film "Why We Need Food Forests" is now available in English. This makes us very happy! A big thank you and much respect to Johannes Straßner.
Check it out, and it would be fantastic if you could share it within your networks. It's so important and one of the main goals of the FoodForest.Network to effectively communicate the potential and benefits of complex agroforestry systems, and to gain understanding and support.
You can find it on YouTube at FoodForestNetwork (EN): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5cK05RMATHE and please subscribe.
Thank you
I'm doing some experiments with plant propagation.
I have a bunch of red oak acorns that have been chilling in the fridge for 4 months or so and are ready to be planted. They've started to root even.
Then I have some grape vines, juniper, burr oak, and cherry hardwood cuttings I'm going to try to rooting. I want to find a few lilacs too; down the road are some with really nice fuschia flowers.
Hopefully I get a few to take. Some might end up at the local plant swap in a month or so.
Great news. Tree loss in #Brazil & #Colombia massively reduced due to political change e.g. election of President Lula. Overall tree loss increased because of forest fires etc but political change will help the environment. A 36% drop in primary forest losses in Brazil in 2023, compared to 2022. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-68716874 #PlantTrees #ClimateChange

@mcnees Imagine what Newton would have said, if we told him there are plasma filaments bigger than our planet sent from the sun hurling through space during eruptions. #Spaceweather has a new significance. Some see it already - besides the wonderful #auroraborealis effects :) Newton would love our ways to visualize & check magnetic fields. #newton #stem #mint – inspire the next generation. We succeeded in planting 5 trees this week. Two blaze maples, a pin oak, a Canadian cherry of some kind, and a hawthorn which the birds found before we got it into the ground. Delicious. Five isn't much! But these were biggish trees, their root balls were very big, and the ground had much in the way of rocks in among the clay.

@TheresaReason there R many options for those of us in urban/suburban areas 2 make a small but worthy difference - #TinyForests With Big Benefits. #Nativeplants crowded onto postage-stamp-size plots have been delivering #environmental benefits around the world & increasingly in US. Please continue to #planttrees that are aligned with the #environment and #ecology of your areas. I have a 1/3 acre tiny forest on my property. still not a full leaf on trees for #earthday
Well, except the dozen I have growing in the greenhouse. I have planted trees (from seed) as my contribution to earth day. Sucks up that CO2, cools the ground under it, shelter for animals, food for bees, and good for you.
And I will be planting flowers around each of my trees when we warm up a little more. Here's a chart guide for the #bees in your life.
