#Republican hate & fear-mongering goes back a bit further than #Fox.

If I were to pinpoint a specific year/person, it would be 1994 when #NewtGingrich went scorched-Earth to destroy the #Democratic Party in order to win back control of the house after 40 years.

Before that, Dem Speaker of the House Tip O'Neil was good friends with Reagan. The two Parties actually worked together.

The #GOP then embraced #Evangelicals and they went to war.

#Trump reportedly felt most comfortable w/ #ChrisChristie, but his daughter #Ivanka held a grudge against the fmr prosecutor, who had helped send her father-in-law, #CharlesKushner, to #jail. #NewtGingrich was a pass since an ex-wife had called the congressman out for cheating, & Trump had already secured the #adulterer vote. #MikePence, a #BibleThumping outsider, seemed like a boring long shot… until fate intervened.

How could Team #Trump think #JDVance was a winning idea? The answer could lie in a parallel moment 8 yrs ago, the last time Trump had to decide on a running mate. It was the summer of 2016, & the then #realityTV host had whittled the field down to 3 final contenders: fmr Speaker of the House #NewtGingrich, then-NJ Gov #ChrisChristie, & Gov #MikePence of Indiana.

As soon as I heart “Newt” I begin to tune out. By the time “Ging-rich” is pronounced in my head, the door slams shut.

I think a lot about the way #Republicans run elections, picking at threads until they turn them into giant controversies that #Democrats spend all their time defending (drawing attention away from their OWN worse offenses.)

Bronze Star recipient John Kerry was #Swiftboat'ed to distract from #AWOLBush. #NewtGingrich investigated Bill Clinton's affairs while HE HIMSELF was having an affair.

@GottaLaff @JaneDoeTheFirst 3) never in my wildest dreams until #KarlRove and #NewtGingrich with assistance from #rushlimbaugh started taking the #GOP down the rabbit hole of name-calling, misinformation, disinformation regarding our government agencies and calling Clinton names I thought were treasonous and tuned them out forever until I realizing they and #LeonardLeo were playing the long game with the #FederalistSociety and judges. #DemocracySuffered
