I was in Germany the summer of 1998, and there was no escaping Guildo Horn & Die Orthopädischen Strümpfe's "Guildo hat euch lieb."

I heard it on the radio, TV, bars... I went to a wedding, and the band played it— that’s how Deutschland chose to celebrate love and commitment that year. Next I went to a Schützenfest and an oompah band covered it.

Just when I was getting ready to go to the airport and fly back to the states, believing I had gotten away from Guildomania, kinder on bicycles rode by, singing it at me. I’m pretty sure Guildo was even hiding in the bushes, just in case I started to forget him.
