Where does the word “alphabet” come from — and what does it have to do with Israel?
It all started in ancient Canaan — the same land that became Israel.
Thousands of years ago, people there carved the first-ever alphabet. The first letters? Aleph (𐤀) and Beth (𐤁), drawn from daily life.
The Hebrews made it their own: the alef-bet — rich with meaning and spirit.
The Phoenicians spread it. The Greeks adapted it (alpha + beta). The Romans passed it on. And that’s how “alphabet” eventually landed in English.
