How We Got Here, a brief meandering #HistoryLesson

Almost 75 Years Ago The #USA Ran A Dirty #RegimeChange Through #Iran At Behest Of #BigOil.

To #US state dept. It seemed like it was going great , state sponsored torture via #SAVAK took care of dissidents run under the "royal decree" of the reinstated #Persian monarch was established in 1957, with assistance of the #CIA and #Mossad. Apparently by 1970s, everybody loved their colognes and discos, skirts on the female pop stars and university students... eventually they even got IKEA as the oil was flowing.

Apparently nowadays no one abroad fondly recollects what happened next .. and what went down in past 45 years...

When US diplomatic hostages were taken and the #IKEA closed, it's managers paying baksheesh to escape, even the US backed #Shah, and anyone with dough was fleeing across borders....The Shah retired to a home near some Saudi Sheik's and #RodStewart's in #BeverlyHills as a back home revolution imposed an exiled #SupremeReligiousLeader...and somehow for decades, under an #Ayatollah in the 21st century, even with massive US imposed #sanctions, or perhaps because of it, the #RevolutionaryGuard leadership benefit by routing billions of dollars into their coffers by controlling thru force, the country's graft, aid, and economic exports. The dissidents still disappear even if perhaps public protest is occasionally allowed in the Islamic Republic of Iran.

They are the last of the #MiddleEast stalwarts refusing to bend to western #BloodForOil imposed Imperialism, while neighbors and rivals with formerly strong leaders like Syria, Iraq, Yemen and Libya have been burnt to crisp shells of former selves.

Now the billionaire bad boy US President is threatening to nuke them...or not.

History Lesson for today: 1851 French coup d'état

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1851_Fre

In the second half of 1851, the French president Louis-Napoléon Bonaparte found himself in a for him unsatisfactory position.

The parliament was blocking his political initiatives, his term of office was running out and the constitution forbade another run as president.

So he decided to coup himself out and replace the elected president (himself) by an self-declared president (himself) with quasi dictatorial powers.

Using his presidential office to place supporters in the right places and removing potential opponents from those, he made sure the coup would succeed.

And so it did. 200 people paid their opposition to his illegal move with their lives. About 30000 were arrested and jailed or deported. Many more went to into exile like the famous writer Victor Hugo.

Once the coup succeeded, he proceeded to convert his (theoretically) electable presidency into a hereditary position and he himself would become: Emperor Napoleon III.

Of course this occurrence is so strange, it could never ever happen again. Can't it?

History Lesson for today: What is camarilla?

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Camarilla

Wikipedia defines as camarilla to be a group of courtiers or favorites who surround a king or ruler. Usually, they do not hold any office or have any official authority at the royal court but influence their ruler behind the scenes.

That is the boring part. The really interesting question is: Why/where do camarillas exist?

Camarillas appear when a person occupies more power than he is capable of handling. It was quite common in monarchies as there was next to no quality control concerning the heir.

But democracies, especially those with a lot of power in the presidential office, have them as well.

When the German president Hindenburg became more and more incapacitated during his second term (he started it with 84), a camarilla formed itself around him.

When the death of Hindenburg came close, the camarilla tried to preserve his power by striking a deal with Hitler. We all now how this played out.

Please use the term at your convenience...

On May 15, Palestinians mark the Nakba. What began in 1948 remains the world’s longest unresolved refugee crisis."

Where does the word “alphabet” come from — and what does it have to do with Israel?

It all started in ancient Canaan — the same land that became Israel.

Thousands of years ago, people there carved the first-ever alphabet. The first letters? Aleph (𐤀) and Beth (𐤁), drawn from daily life.

The Hebrews made it their own: the alef-bet — rich with meaning and spirit.

The Phoenicians spread it. The Greeks adapted it (alpha + beta). The Romans passed it on. And that’s how “alphabet” eventually landed in English.

So next time you say “alphabet,” remember:
You’re speaking a little piece of ancient Israel.

To the beat of drum-heavy Nordic music, Arn Kind steps in front of an audience of about 20 people in the basement of the Elysian public library. He’s dressed in furs, holding a round wooden shield and brandishing an ax.

He’s ready to deliver a lesson on the Viking Age that will be hard to forget.

MPR News · For this Minnesota living history teacher, the past is never deadBy Dan Gunderson

Andrew Murray, Dutch Reformed missionary in Africa, writes on love. The practice of loving all children of God will teach you to love all people. This (Christian or not, unclear) includes sinful and enemies. To do this is to reflect Christ to others.

Do we instead need to pwn our political opponents, even carve off the insufficiently partisan in own church?

How can you show love?

Continued thread

You'd have a devilish conundrum at the heart of the show with the occupants of the hi-tech transportation device living easy lives in comparison to the wreckage around them. You'd have a Star Trek-filled landscape of tough moral decisions. You would also have modern relevance with a world in which we have NOT been good stewards and our youth have to take charge.

Food for thought! :)
