I started monitoring my network with #NetAlertX to see what devices are connected to it.
Currently using the basic features and I am loving it
@antoinnesterk what you're at is difficult to do - apparently not attractive enough as a market outside of law enforcement. In my opinion the safety of people with dementia ought to be a prime target for the #homeautomation community...
At least some people work on it.
My brother resides in the United Kingdom with his wife and children. Today, he completed installing FaceAge on his bedroom door, as a precautionary measure in case his kids unexpectedly enter the bedroom at an inopportune time.
Worried your cloud-controlled smart devices could be ruined by the manufacturer? You should be.

Does anyone know a USB camera which has focus (provides sharp images) starting at 2cm maximum 5cm distance from the front of the lense?
Not a webcam, more for tinkering, like https://www.ebay.de/itm/176974679649?_skw=usb+camera&itmmeta=01K1D7BGFWMTMNKNDFNAE23R6D&hash=item2934834e61:g:55oAAOSw-1xn7Oi9
The data in the usual webshops hardly mentions this technical data.
Background: I want to try some OCR on a Ferraris power meter. (I have the led based method detecting the pass of the red bar. Want to try OCR now.)

Oh dear lord. Help me, I’ve discovered @homeassistant.
July has been jam packed with new additions to the WWHA program - for this month's final addition, Shelly is joining!
They certified Z-Wave devices like their retrofit smart switches & relays, turning dumb devices into smart ones.
Check out the blog for more details

Yesterday I noticed that the pool pump wasn't running. I checked the power consumption logs and found it hasn't been running for a few days. This is very bad! High risk of soup pool.
After fixing the issue with the pump, I set up an automation in #homeassistant : At 09:30 every day, check the power consumption of the pump. Send an alert to my phone if it's less than 1.5kW.
All thanks to #foss!
Gonna re-post my guide for anyone with a Mitsubishi Electric split-system Air con from the last 10ish years, on how to integrate it with Home Assistant/ESPHome for $20 with one extremely easy, reversible, safe hardware addition!
I've been running it without issue for 9 months now, and others have successfully followed my process.

I've used the integration to do stuff like automatically turn off the aircon an hour after I go to sleep, and put an automation so if we leave the house, it'll turn the aircon off in case we forgot. I also built an automation to run it in fan only mode on low for 15 minutes after being on cooling, to evaporate the moisture inside that otherwise leaves to building up mould.
In September, we're celebrating our 12th Birthday! This year, we're doing something new - we want to share YOUR stories.

When things need my attention, badges appear across the top of my dashboard to let me know.
No, I don’t have smart circuit breakers, but I have a few that will pop on occasion so I created a template sensor containing the specific lights that become unavailable that turns ON when the breaker pops. From there, it’s just another hidden badge like the rest of them.

Well shit!
Another breaking change not mentioned in the @homeassistant release notes. Or am I blind?
Even the documentation page for this integration was just removed. That's evil.
I wonder how many signatures we could get for an EU initiative that would require manufacturers to sell same quality "dumb" counterparts to their regular "smart" offerings of appliances and electronics, at the same or lower price.
Dumb TVs, washing machines, coffee makers, toothbrushes, etc. that would not require apps, wifi, bluetooth, phoning home, ads, etc.
Remove anything extra that is not required for the core use case of the product.
