Awesome, will check it out.

> currently powered by Buddypress, unfortunately

Why is that unfortunate?

Is it about the current lack of interop with the fediverse? Couldn't you make a BuddyPress server into a fediverse server by adding the ActivityPub for WordPress plug-in?

Some tweaking of one or the other might be required, but BP devs will need guidance on the UX goals;

@pfefferle I look forward to seeing this federated future! Ironically, the main reason I signed up with @wordpressdotcom was because of the #ActivityPub plugin.

I think with a few tweaks, #WordPress could become the super app within the #Fediverse.

I do hope the #BuddyPress & #bbPress teams jump on board, as greater ActivityPub integration could help rejuvenate these social WordPress “projects” (as they would provide competitive balance against #Facebook & #Reddit).

You cannot use #Activitypub with the #Buddypress plugin. I'm surprised no one has reported this to the #WordPress developers community.

The problem is that ActivityPub wants to use a different author URL from WordPress/BuddyPress, so nothing gets populated.

As best I can determine the permalinks that BuddyPress forces are simply too incongruous with what WordPress+ActivityPub thinks should be presented.

Has anyone gotten this combination to work?

My podcast interview with the #BuddyPress folks is out now. BuddyPress is a wonderful #WordPress plugin that can turn your site into a message-board, or help you manage user accounts. It was cool to hear what the team has been working on lately, but I was most excited when we started talking about the possibility of #ActivityPub integration in a future version.

You can listen to the episode, or read the transcript here torquemag.io/2023/11/press-thi

Torque · Press This: A Big New Version of BuddyPressIn this episode of Press This, BuddyPress' iMath and David Cavins discuss new features in version 12.0 and the possibility of a BuddyVerse upgrade with the help of ActivityPub.

A beautiful day. I’m at Haus Coffee, editing a recent interview with iMath and David Cavins about a huge new update coming to #BuddyPress, a #WordPress plugin that powers forums and online communities. I was really excited to talk about the “BuddyVerse” a long term goal to enable federation between BuddyPress sites. Possibly powered by #ActivityPub. To hear the episode when it comes out, subscribe to Press This: A WordPress Community Podcast on your favorite podcasting app.

Hadn't thought about this, enabled Buddypress & bbPress on sirtaptap.com as a test and just now noticed I got about 500 spam registrations.

Usually akismet/cloudflare keeps spam low and deletes stuff but I guess for users they don't apply.

Not too much bad a spam user can do on my site, but I went and deleted 'em and added a Cloudflare managed challenge.

Any advice from people using social features on Wordpress? I'm looking at adding forums
