So, you know I couldn't play #Bluray on #Linux ?

Well, I decided to invest in a new player because my other one went a bit temperamental after it had an accident involving gravity and the floor.

So I bought a better one ... and I've just tested a Bluray disc and it works!

Now I'm thinking my other cheaper player isn't actually a Bluray player at all, just a DVD player with the Bluray logo on it.

So, I completely screwed this up. I bought Andor season 1 collector's edition steelbook on eBay, and it turns out I ordered HD Bluray instead of 4K.

I didn't even know they existed in HD, so I didn't check properly. It was damn expensive too, so wasted a lot of money there. 😅

Trying to sell it again for about half price.

I got the correct edition of Obi-Wan Kenobi in the same order though, so at least there's that!

Today (April 22) is John Waters' birthday. He's a personal weird, filthy hero of mine (since I was about 16, despite me being cis), and I have a bit of a Waters collection going.

On my birthday this year, I found a KILLER deal for the Blu-ray Criterion Collection version of Pink Flamingos, and this is what is included inside of it- mini newspaper!

Happy birthday to John, and may he continue to be a huge inspiration to so many of us.

...does #Bluray make sense? Current pricing is at $10.40/TB, which you generally won't beat with hard drives, ever. Even without floods in Thailand or tariffs. The discs don't themselves have any moving parts and purportedly will be readable "for centuries" (lol, k).

I archive data every month that I might, but probably won't look at in the future. I don't love how much hard drives cost, especially if you are setting up redundancy.

Edit: Oops, got the math totally wrong. It's more like $98/TB.
