"Black Hole" (1979) de Gary Nelson es una de esas películas ocultas y olividadas de las que Disney no ha querido sacar pecho, pero yo creo que es una maravilla visual por encima de muchas producciones de la época.

Puede que tenga un poso de película de Ciencia Ficción de Serie B, puede que el robot V.I.N.CENT sea prescindible (a mi parecer sobra), pero "El abismo negro" es una gozada.

Peter Ellenshaw (diseño de producción) y Robert McCall (director de arte ) estuvieron a cargo de "Black Hole"... el resto es historia.

Got into Vonnegut as a teen after reading Slaughterhouse-Five, my dad had a copy from college (and I later dug Vonnegut's Breakfast of Champions, my favorite of his). But I'd never seen the movie adaptation of Slaughterhouse-Five from 1972, so I'm watching it now. So far, so good- captures what I remember of the book pretty well.

I saw this tonight at the Denton Black Film Festival. If you're in the DFW area, there will be another screening tomorrow night in Dallas at the Texas Theatre.

The FBI got this pulled from theaters after only two weeks, and it still feels radical. The fashions are dated, the ideas are not.

Yoshiaki Kawajiri's 1993 anime Ninja Scroll combines action, adventure, swordplay, fantasy, horror, outrageous imagery and perverse eroticism. Ninjas battling demons! A lady ninja whose body kills any man who sleeps with her! A must-see movie.

Antonio Margheriti’s Web of the Spider is a colour remake of his excellent 1964 Castle of Blood. With Klaus Kinski as Edgar Allan Poe! A good slightly offbeat gothic horror film featuring ghosts (sort of) and a nice aesthetic. Cool ending.

The 1976 King Kong remake is woefully inferior to the original. A trainwreck but an interesting one. Dull characters but great visuals and nicely perverse eroticism. Jessica Lange is no Fay Wray but she isn't that bad and she's cute and sexy.

Massimo Dallamano's 1976 poliziottesco Colt 38 Special Squad concerns an elite four-man squad of motorcycle-riding cops and a personal vendetta between a cop and a gang boss. A stylish but very violent very dark movie with fine action scenes.

A favourite film a day for 365 days: Paper Moon.

Charming, touching comedy about a two-bit con man travelling through Depression-era Missouri with a little girl who may or not be his daughter. The interplay between father and daughter is wonderful, the settings are striking, and the black-and-white photography a thing of beauty.

52 years ago today on March 17 1972, my favorite movie 'Pink Flamingos' had its premiere at the campus of the University of Baltimore. It's quite a film.

I don't recommend you watch this movie unless you're prepared for some weird and gross stuff. But I grew up in Maryland and it sure does sum up Baltimore in a beautiful and bizarre way.

I love John Waters flicks, and this one's my favorite forever.

Legend of the Witches (1970), an odd faux-documentary taking a sympathetic look at witchcraft in the modern world and with re-enactments (possibly quite realistic) of witchcraft rituals, laced with copious nudity. And some vague hippie touches.

A favourite film a day for 365 days: The Texas Chain Saw Massacre.

It's the title that does it: everybody thinks you see far more than you actually do. That and the photography, not to mention the use of sound and the stunning art direction. I can't think of another film that's come as close as this to reproducing the *feeling* of a nightmare.

Harold is young, rich and gloomy, and likes to commit suicide. It's his hobby. Then he meets Maude, who's 80, and getting everything she can out of life. Funny, anarchic, *very* 1970s. The absolute definition of a cult movie. (Great Cat Stevens songs.)
