England to deny and jabs to under-65s despite fears for this winter theguardian.com/society/2023/a
Yet: “Last winter was one of the most challenging on record for the NHS in England. It is expected to face a surge in demand in the coming months with officials anticipating a large number of people needing help for respiratory illnesses, including flu and Covid.”

vibe. 😳

The Guardian · England to deny Covid and flu jabs to under-65s despite fears for NHS this winterBy Andrew Gregory

@auscandoc Aren't they the ones who wanted to protect their vulnerable instead of locking down? Vaccinating everyone is the best way to protect the vulnerable. That's the true meaning of herd immunity.

@code_witch Certainly seems a very “austerity” decision which seems to tolerate significant morbidity in those not included. And, as you say, increases exposure to the vulnerable.

@auscandoc It's not "despite fears", it's a "the NHS isn't broken enough for the public to accept privatization yet" decision.

The Tory agenda is to destroy the NHS. This decision serves that agenda.

@graydon I’m trying to believe that the JVCI would not be complicit in such an agenda (but yes I’m aware of their chequered past).

@auscandoc Almost no MDs understand selection. Lots of them have strange ideas about immune systems, too. And they're nigh-uniformly structurally over-specialized and medical culture is TERRIBLE at learning from mistakes.

So it doesn't take being complicit in the agenda, it just takes a bit of manipulable self-image in a couple-three members of the committee.

Which, well. Odds are.

@auscandoc What a bunch of bleeping morons. They tried herd immunity before. It failed miserably. Now they are trying that combined with stuffing their heads where the sun didn’t shine. It will destroy health, health care, and ultimately society as a whole.
