An actual "compliment" I received on a conference talk, only to realize a few days later how loaded it was. It still hurts when I remember it, and it happened in 2006.

Supposedly a true story.
Victorian actor Herbert Beerbohm Tree was in a performance of Hamlet.
After the show, he was in his dressing room and W. S. Gilbert (of Gilbert and Sullivan fame) burst in with an enthusiastic cry, "My dear sir! Good was not the word!"
Of all the films I’ve ever seen, that was certainly one of them.
