I just received & watched 2 original movies & their sequels in a row -- #Twister (1996) & #Twisters (2024) and #Beetlejuice (1988) and #Beetlejuice2 (2024) -- after receiving copies of the sequels on #DVD

I also watched the sequels at my local #AMC too.

The originals still hold up well after all these years & IMO are still better than the sequels. While the sequels hold up fairly well in their own right, I think that Beetlejuice2 does a better job of extending the story line & maintaining the spirit of the original.

While the still living key actors in Beetlejuice2 obviously look older (the dad died & they had to use animation & CGI to update his story), #MichaelKeaton reprises his role as though 36 years had not passed between the 2 films. He kills it!!! 👏👏

Watched "Twisters" last night to distract myself from bigger real life disasters.. and it was "meh" (for me). Mostly because they started with the "main character" male lead as a social media influencer-YouTube streamer, but also because they failed to develop any of the characters except the main ones. Plus they cut/copied/paste the character types out of a standardized casting book, and were loosey-goosey on the science. I guess some people might find it fun, but I was not impressed.

Ok i Compared this 4k edition to the version on AppleTV (that I for a moment thought would be god enough. TL:DR: it isn't)
This look much better. The grainy quality of the 35mm panavision photography is preserved here and makes the image look sharp and detailed (even when it isn't.) On AppleTV the encoder struggles with the grain and it causes the image to look muddy and lacking detail. The blu-ray version has the same problem. Remember: you need at least 4k to show 35 mm film grain.
The sound is exactly the same as on appleTV. I can't hear any difference on my 4.1.4 atmos system

This makes one wonder why they would they shoot on grainy 35 mm panavision when most people will watch the movie in 2k cinemas, 4k streaming or 1080p blu-ray. But it looks cool on 4k blu-ray.

I saw the movie in a 2k cinema and it didn't look very good.
