Tim Sherratt<p>A researcher got in touch yesterday asking about saving digitised periodicals in <a href="https://hcommons.social/tags/Trove" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Trove</span></a> as PDFs. All the various bits you need for this are in the <a href="https://hcommons.social/tags/TroveDataGuide" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>TroveDataGuide</span></a>, but I hadn't actually pulled them together as a notebook. I thought it might be useful to others, so I've now created a <a href="https://hcommons.social/tags/GLAMWorkbench" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>GLAMWorkbench</span></a> notebook that helps you download all the issues of a digitised periodical as PDFs: <a href="https://glam-workbench.net/trove-journals/save-issues-as-pdfs/" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">glam-workbench.net/trove-journ</span><span class="invisible">als/save-issues-as-pdfs/</span></a> Enjoy! <a href="https://hcommons.social/tags/GLAM" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>GLAM</span></a> <a href="https://hcommons.social/tags/histodons" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>histodons</span></a> <a href="https://hcommons.social/tags/digitalHumanities" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>digitalHumanities</span></a> <span class="h-card"><a href="https://a.gup.pe/u/histodons" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">@<span>histodons</span></a></span> <a href="https://hcommons.social/tags/researchInfrastructure" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>researchInfrastructure</span></a></p>

Tim Sherratt<p>It's <a href="https://hcommons.social/tags/familyHistoryMonth" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>familyHistoryMonth</span></a> in Australia, so I'm going to try and post something every day from the <a href="https://hcommons.social/tags/TroveDataGuide" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>TroveDataGuide</span></a> &amp; <a href="https://hcommons.social/tags/GLAMWorkbench" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>GLAMWorkbench</span></a> that could be useful for people researching <a href="https://hcommons.social/tags/genealogy" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>genealogy</span></a>, <a href="https://hcommons.social/tags/familyHistory" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>familyHistory</span></a>, &amp; <a href="https://hcommons.social/tags/locaHistory" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>locaHistory</span></a>. </p><p>First up is the Tasmanian Post Office Directories – a full-text database that lets you to search for names and addresses across all 48 volumes digitised by Libraries Tasmania from 1890 to 1948. I can't remember if I ever did an post, but it's probably out of date anyway. I'm a historian who has spent much of the last couple of decades working in & around the sector, building tools & resources to help other historians do interesting things with digital collections. I used to be Associate-Professor of Digital Heritage at Uni of Canberra, and Manager of at NLA. Now I suppose I'm semi retired, though busier than ever working on my own projects and sometimes on consultancies/contracts.

My main projects at the moment are the and the , which bring together a whole lot of tools, hacks, documentation etc assembled over many years. This sort of practical stuff fits into my broader research interests around the nature of this thing we call 'access'. There's more on my newly-updated website at timsherratt.au .
