What look like the old Wester Head Mine buildings in bright sunlight, from a slightly gloomier Harboro Rocks in the #derbyshire maybe #staffordshire #peakdistrict Obscured by the grass in the foreground is the big montrosity of a works that processes stone by the ton at the foot of the Rocks :-) Beauty and the Beast, really.

Old stone building sat on top of a ridge of green grass and leafy trees. And industrial landscape slowly taken over by the kind of nature that a farmer allows.

Had a nice walk today up in the hills above Errwood Reservoir. Shining Tor, Cats Tor and then back along Foxlow Edge.

The trig point at the top of Shining Tor (559m). Like many Ordnance Survey trig points in the UK, this is a four-sided squat white post. In the near distance is a dry stone wall, while the trig point itself is in a grassy field. The distance view stretches a long way, looking out to other hills and countryside, and above everything is a beautiful blue sky.

Shining Tor is technically the highest point in Cheshire, although the dry stone wall marks the border between Cheshire and Derbyshire so it's literally only just in Cheshire, and I was technically in Derbyshire when I took the photo!

A view looking back the way we came, from near the top of the ascent to Shining Tor. Peaty moorland scrub can be seen in the foreground, while looking way down into the valley there is a glimpse of Errwood reservoir. Behind that hills rise again, hiding Buxton from view. There is a pale blue sky with only slight wispy clouds.

Here we're just starting to descend. The path through the moorland with its peat scrub, heather and bilberries will soon turn into a gravel path through a pine forest. Although not visible in this photo the path descends quite steeply towards a reservoir, beyond which a range of distant hills can be seen on the far side of the valley.

Staden Barns, close to Wolfescote Dale on an old road from Hartington in the #derbyshire #peakdistrict - Despite being in what's described as the Town Quarter there are vew few buildings in the immediate area.

Two small, drystone barns sit to both sides of a walled road, with grass growing up its centre. Black and white sheep occupy the fields with their lambs. The sun is out, the sky is blue with only a few clouds not to spoil the view.

The bedroom window of an abandoned farm in the Peak District, England. Always wanted to revisit, but I never managed to find it again...

An old wall in pastel hues, with cracked plaster to one side of a window and peeling floral pattern wallpaper to the other. The window is small and through a thick wall, with cracked paintwork, and the remains of curtains hanging from the top and a single thin curtain hanging on by one corner to the side. On the windowsill is an old biscuit tin from I guess the 50s or 60s, a small wooden framed hand mirror and a small wooden tray from a jewellery box.

Kinder scout plateau, looking west, from Grindslow Knoll. As usual in anything except perfect weather, the combination of a plateau edge and clouds makes for hurricane winds where I'm standing. The incisions (cloughs) along the plateau make for excellent scrambling in mostly hidden but steep rocky creek beds. #peakdistrict #nature #hiking #landscape

A barren plateau covered by moss and rock formations going back hundreds of thousands, if not millions of years. In the distance racing rainclouds swirl, with the plateau showing clear cuts eroded by creeks.
