"Air a la Grecque" (1761, Charles Delusse) is perhaps the first classical piece to be explicitly microtonal, in that it clearly requires more than 12 notes per octave.
Performed by Kite Giedraitis and Devin Ulibarri in Portland, OR on August 4, 2024.

At #FOSSY24 on Sunday, there were quite a few musical activities. Multi-instrumentalist Timmy Barnett gave his presentation on "GNU/Linux Loves All: Free Software in Music", I conducted a Music Blocks workshop, a group of FOSSY participants gathered to play music and share instruments.
It was quite fun to celebrate music and software freedom / free culture in this way, and there is much to be proud of.
Huge appreciation for user-serviceable products.
I recently splurged on a #linnstrument.
Had a minor issue with it (something loose inside). Sent email to support. 12h later got the diagnosis (packet of dessicant had come loose during shipping), and instructions on how to fix it.
- How to open and reassemble the device.
- Where and how to re-attach the dessicant packet.
15min later I was done.
I'll take this over shipping for repairs any day...
This was such a great unplanned conversation with Anthony Marinelli at Superbooth. We sat down to talk about analog versus digital, but immediately veered off into a great exchange about expressivity and synthesis.
After 2 years of weekly meetings with the MPE working group, many discussions, heated debates, over 60 revisions, ... the MIDI 2.0 Profile for MPE is finally available for download from the new MIDI Association website!

Roger Linn gives a close-up demo of #LinnStrument, to benefit those who are interested in it but don't have an opportunity to play one before buying.
@mcc @bonkydog I was assuming this was something reposted by @gbevin or something that showed up in the #MIDI hashtag I follow, but a repost from Anil was surprise, and welcome! I was just playing my #Linnstrument earlier this evening.

Thanks to non-stop work during this long weekend, I managed to get an epic amount of features in. I'm really proud of the new UI and support for themes with a built-in editor.
A friend reworked the UI of ShowMIDI and I'm almost done implementing it for the next version, including complete theming support!
MIDI data has never been this pretty! :-D
Roger recorded this charming and informative overview of how LinnStrument came into existence.
