South face of this fascinating late Saxon/early Norman font, with so much complex imagery.
Today's the feast of St Mark, the author of the second canonical gospel, evangelist and perhaps first bishop of Alexandria. In church art he's often represented by a winged lion, a symbol drawn from the Book of Revelation, as here on the 15th Century font at Nettlestead, Suffolk. #FontsonFriday

Norman font - one of my favourites because it and its cover are so wonky and cute and they live in a tiny but lovely church in a village with a great name.

There are seven black Tornai fonts in England dating from C12 and early C13th, made in and around the Belgian town of Tournai.
Each font was probably carved by local masons before transport, based on similarities in style and shape, and the difficulties and expense of transporting a complete block, much of which would be wasted.
Many more of these fonts are found in Belgium and France, and a few in Germany.
Luppitt, Devon
North side of the font with a fascinating array of imagery. Though probably Norman it may be late Saxon and is made of Membury stone from about 10 miles away.
Bearded man with a wonderful handlebar moustache from an early 12th century font which originally came from St. Peter's Church at Hutton Cranswick in East Yorkshire. The font is now part of the collections at Hull and East Riding Museum. My own. #FontsOnFriday #Medieval
