I got a call from a very good scammer last night. He knew my name and my bank. Caller ID was my bank's number. Said there had been suspicious activity on my account. Listed 2 large transactions that I hadn't made. Said they would cancel my card and reissue a new one.

Until then it all sounded legit. Then he asked for the last 8 digits of my credit card.

I said I would call the bank directly. Sure enough, scam.

Turns out a relative fell for the same one last month.

"Scammers Target Desperate EV Drivers with Fraudulent QR Codes

Fake QR codes direct EV drivers to a malicious site when all they want is to charge their car."

"[S]cammers are replacing the EV charging networks’ QR codes with their own, directing these unsuspecting victims to their own malicious site. Once there, drivers enter their credit card information in a bid to pay for a charge, only to have the scammers steal that information for misuse.

'Quishing, or QR phishing, is a cybersecurity threat in which attackers use QR codes to redirect victims to malicious websites or prompt them to download harmful content,' explains security specialist company Cloudflare."

Check your credit card transactions for $1 - $3 charges, one per month could be different names. Call them in right away

For the first time since owning a credit card I found such a thing, 2 separate (apparent) online services I'm 100% certain I have never used, charges the past 2 mths

Fraud Source 1
* location: BRICK NJ (Brick, New Jersey)
* amounts: $1.85 USD, $2.85 USD

Fraud Source 2
* location: NORTH PALM BEFL (North Palm Beach, Florida)
* amounts: 2 x $1.79 USD

One of my rarely-used credit cards was compromised, as someone tried to Grubhub some Denny's with it today (no grand slam for you!). The fact that it was used at GH means they have the CVV and my zip. I've only ever used this card with big PCI DSS-audited merchants (like Amazon), and the very few in-person transactions on this card never involved someone else having a chance to glean the CVV from the back (I always inserted or tapped while having physical control of the card).

Where the hell did they get my CVV? #crime #fraud #creditcardfraud
