Good to see Calmac prioritising Gaelic as usual, naming their vessel Isle of Islay. Of course they have a Gaelic policy but they just routinely ignore it. Not a particularly easy name to say or understand on channel 16.

I just hope she doesn’t have a bow visor like the MV Estonia.
#calmac #gaelic

Wow, at least it's not just Calmac that are completely rubbish. It does make you wonder why skilled manufacturing like ferries is consistently behind and over-budget.

There's a slight irony that a Ferguson was involved with the Tasmanian ferries. Seems like a surname one should keep away from ferrying.

Both the ferry company TT-Line and ports firm TasPorts are state-owned, and in August the infrastructure minister, Michael Ferguson, and TT-line chairman, Mike Grainger, both resigned.

“Toronto spending $92M on pair of replacement ferries

The city says the #ferries are between 61 and 114 years old and are beyond the average industry lifespan. This summer, council approved the purchase of two new electric vessels for $92 million, but they won't be delivered until late 2026 and early 2027.”

A bit of perspective for the #Corran ferry!
And indeed for the #Calmac fleet.

To anyone living in #Scotland, and especially to anyone with the vaguest connection to the #Hebrides, the rolling omnishambles that is the #CalMac #ferry situation won't come as news.
Trying to get off the #IsleOfIslay on the 9th, I've had my return booked for weeks, but the outward journey still shows no ferries at all on the booking system for Mon - Fri that week. I called yesterday and was told they would be up within the next two weeks.
Eh, thanks pal...
The only option is to keep checking the dreadful booking system until they go live, and hope you're quick enough to get a booking - or is it!?
