@NationalGeographic @history-culture-NationalGeographic Unfortunately you need an account to read this article, but if you are (or will be) in the NYC area you can see an exhibit about the Black Angels at the Staten Island Museum.

The larger exhibit has closed, but much of it can still be seen in a smaller gallery. Or you can view the online version (link below) from anywhere.

It is centered around the voice of Virginia Allen. Her recollections paint a vivid picture of life as a Black nurse in New York City's public hospital system in the mid-1900s.
