All I can say is thank goodness for this election!
I use old envelopes to write shopping lists and other notes on. But my supply has been dwindling because I don’t get many letters any more.
Week 1 of the campaign and I already have enough supply to last me several months.

Bibliothèque Éva-Circé-Côté, Montréal, Canada

The former St-Gabriel fire station was designed by Joseph A. Mercier and built in 1891-92. Following the merger with the city of Montreal, it was decommissioned and converted into a library in 1976. At the occasion of its recent renovation, the library was renamed after journalist, author and Montreal's first professional librarian Éva Circé-Côté.

Bibliothèque publique et scolaire d'Orbe, Switzerland

The public library in the town of Orbe is located inside a former prison. The 14th century building was first a hospital before being converted into the town jail in 1835. The cells remained in function until 1960. The library now shares the building with a small theatre, although there are plans to build a modern library to replace it.

#ICYMI "Barbara Pahl, chair of Historic Denver’s preservation policy committee, testified in support of the bipartisan House Bill 1125 to provide incentives to developers, although she thinks the state should quintuple the incentive to $25 million. Not all older buildings are suited for such conversion and for those that are, it’s going to cost way more...she said." coloradosun.com/2024/04/01/dow via @coloradosun re: #adaptivereuse et al.

The Colorado Sun · If downtown Denver building owners convert empty offices to residential, will people move in?By Tamara Chuang

BU Fonderie, UHA, Mulhouse, France

This reading room sits under one of the sculptural shed openings of the former foundry building for the Société Alsacienne de Construction Mécanique SACM.

The reinforced concrete structure was designed by Paul Maroseau and opened in 1922. It now serves as satellite campus for Université de Haute-Alsace.

"From 2021 to 2024, the number of #apartments scheduled for conversion from old office spaces increased from 12,100 to 55,300.

Behind this shift lies a crucial factor: the $150 billion in office #mortgages due by 2024. As residential space demand surges, #developers are leaping at the chance to repurpose these aging giants. Currently, office #conversions represent a staggering 38% of the 147,000 apartments in future #adaptivereuse projects."

Touching down lightly here to say, Happy New Year! I cannot believe it has been so long since I posted here. Though I post often on IG, a habit I suppose, I am not so often on here. I love this platform but it stopped working on my phone, that is probably why. How is everyone?!

In my catching up mode, here are three good things...

1. My #HouseReno is coming along beautifully and the #RetainingWall I was so worried about is being reconstructed today. Though it was supposed to all be done by the middle of last August, a combination of delays, weather and adding more items to the scope, have extended the schedule. It's OK. I love it.
2. I'm well into my doctorate in business admin program (focus on #OrganizationalLeadership) and really enjoying it. For the most of each of the days and weeks leading up to an assignment being due, I feel like I'm grappling with concepts (I don't have an MBA; this is a #DBA). Then, in the hours before, during and after submitting an assignment, I think, "wow, that wasn't hard at all." I am learning!
3. Work is fascinating, daily, and I feel so fortunate to be connected to bright, solutions-focused people working in architecture and engineering. My projects are now spanning two countries and involving more #CarbonModeling and #Sustainability oversight. I do a lot of quality control reviews of #HistoricRestoration / #AdaptiveReuse sustainability-related projects. It is emerging.
