The Constitution was not that difficult to change -- until the 1970s. Since then, the Republican Party has (apparently on purpose) made it impossible to change the Constitution in any meaningful way.
The only change we have had is the 27th Amendment, which is no better than a sad joke. One might as well ignore it. It is a political stunt passed off as a Constitutional amendment. The 26th was the last real Amendment and perhaps the last we’ll ever see.

Don't need to change the constitution to make some major changes. Get the key states to adopt the National Popular Vote.
And overturn Citizens United.

At this juncture of US history we need to be very careful about changing the US Constitution. In this right-wing climate, the fascists would start with modifying our basic protections in the 1st, 4th, 5th, 6th, 8th, 13th, 14th, 15th and 19th Amendments. They'd do away with lifetime federal judicial appointments and eliminate judicial independence (overruling, in constitutional language, Marbury v Madison). We need to not change the Constitution while the government is in the hands of a criminal extremist gang.
