Swedish man dies in South Korea after being denied urgent treatment at 21 hospitals
Hospitals were reportedly reluctant to treat the individual due to his foreign nationality, the high cost of surgery, and concerns over reimbursement for his medical care.
Eventually, Hyuksin Seongmo Hospital in North Chungcheong Province, 86 km away from Seoul, agreed to perform the surgery seven days after Park began calling hospitals
@rvaughnmd It is disappointing how far we are from recognizing the humanity in each other.
@rvaughnmd
Aaah ok il était interdit de sortie du territoire coréen.
Je me demandais pourquoi l'ambassade n'avait pas tout fait pour le rapatrier.
So you can't leave and you can't get care here? Interesting approach which seems strange since it seems they would have been glad to get rid of him for multiple reasons -
@rvaughnmd
He was a suspect in a drug case.
That's why.
He was poor. No health insurance.
No social security because he was not working there.
@beatricejess So, subhuman I guess. State takes away your freedom and has no responsibility for your life. Sounds about right.
@rvaughnmd
Indeed.
Same for the swedish embassy.
Bunch of €56+&()@#*!
@rvaughnmd
He was not able to take care of himself.
Such a shame to let him deal with all that alone.
The suffering must have been horrible given the severe infection he had.
@rvaughnmd I can't tell whether this would have had a better or worse outcome in the US justice & healthcare systems--which is rather embarassing for Korea.
@log Well, it couldn't have been worse.
@DrGecko They only wanted to make the sister and embassy pay €20k. A US hospital would have charged $100k, the color of his eyes, all memories of the number seven, and the wand of Osiris.
