People think to themselves, “I don’t live in Mississippi, or I’m not trans, how is this hate relevant to me?” I am writing from Canada, where school boards across our country are being disrupted by bigotry. All of us should condemn transphobia. What’s happening in schools is a microcosm of society. Pay attention. Stand up as an ally, wherever you are. #TransRightsAreHumanRights https://www.mississippifreepress.org/33223/trans-girl-sues-over-order-to-dress-as-boy-at-harrison-county-graduation
@nilikm If you're a cis person who doesn't give a shit about the lives and well-being of trans people (and let's face it, most cis people don't), and need a purely selfish reason to even lift a finger in our defense, consider this:
It never ends with just us. We're the canary in the coal mine, the test group that genocidal bigots give their hatred a preliminary run on to see if they can get away with it. Once they normalize killing us off, they immediately widen their scope to more groups, which I guarantee will include you and/or people you love.
So fight for us together, or become isolated and alone once we're gone.
@TrashkittenDeluxe I am a cis woman who provides primary health care to my family medicine trans patients and as a school board trustee I advocate for trans rights. And as a Jewish woman, I’m well aware that racism, antisemitism, transphobia, and other forms of hate are linked. We stand up for each other, or we all suffer.
