With lots of reports of COVID positives after the DNC convention, worth examining what COVID policies they had in place.
There was no warning about high COVID levels, no asking attendees to test, no providing high quality masks, or even encouraging people to wear them.
The only COVID policy the DNC had was "masks will be allowed if necessary due to a disability."

@luckytran The inverse being “No masks allowed if you’re not disabled.” Completely bonkers. On this issue, there really is hardly any difference between the parties.
@luckytran my disability is that I'm mortal and can die from infection, so yeah, we should all be considered immunocompromised and vulnerable to a virus that rapidly ages our bodies
@luckytran Best to interpret that as necessary due to an existing or potential future disability.
@luckytran So, when given a chance the left is equally stupid.
Don't want people thinking things aren't absolutely perfect at the party.
@luckytran
Compare the DNC advice with that for the mainly-outdoor EMF Camp earlier this year… (in particular, the section ‘What you should do’…)
“We strongly encourage you to:
* Take a rapid test (lateral flow test) for COVID-19 the day you leave for EMF
* Wear masks on public transport and in enclosed spaces on your way to EMF
* Bring rapid tests with you to take during the event
* Bring masks, and wear a mask at EMF if you're in a crowded enclosed area…”
Etc.

@luckytran Why do we wait until the government tells us to wear a mask? Wear one if you choose to, don't if you don't.
Silly thread
@luckytran I hope that is not a policy teaser for the Harris-Walz administration and more of an optics thing. They want to run on "having ended the pandemic," so obviously they don't want masks in the crowd. !(Although, ironically, that's how we could have ended the pandemic). I can't think of a reason they would want such policy outside of the convention, but one would think that the DNC causing a COVID outbreak would also be bad optics if you are running as pandemic heros.
@luckytran This idiocy justifies naming names. Who can be assigned personal responsibility for this policy and the document? Is there any info on #COVID transmission at the four packed #StephenColbert #TheLateShow at the 4000-seat #AuditoriumTheatre?
@luckytran This is one of many reasons that it's important to remember two things:
1. The DNC is a private corporation, they are allowed to make their own rules, for better or worse.
2. The DNC is a stepping-stone for liberal/progressive political candidates. They don't have any control over it; they just use it as a means of gaining support, air-time, and having a place to organize and throw a party at the end.
Basically, yeah, this was really shitty of the DNC. Also, not Kamala's fault; she has no control over their rules. My guess is that, if she could have, she would have demanded that they fix this so that masking and testing would be encourage, and so that there would have been a vaccination clinic available. She's that kind of person - she cares about others. At the same time, she can't control everything, even if she is the VP.
@JustRosy @luckytran I'm not sure why you're guessing that. I wish I could believe it, but so far I've seen no air between Harris's approach to COVID and Biden's, and Biden is unfortunately 1000% onboard the vax and relax bandwagon.
Harris's husband was appearing in public unmasked while he had COVID.
Maybe when Harris moves out from under Biden's shadow her COVID policy will change, but so far I see no concrete evidence of that.
@luckytran I'm shocked! Shocked!
Well, not that shocked.
@luckytran ALLOWED! ALLOWED! There is something very wrong with this statement. Has everyone got brain damage over there. ?
@luckytran that is not how masks protect. appalling decision.
@luckytran Are you now, or have you ever been, (a member of the DP) +ve with Covid?
@luckytran "Allowed." I paused reading there for a bit to soak it in.
Masks will be allowed if necessary due to a disability.
This must be the first time in my life, where (had I been there) I would have wanted to have a disability...
And no that's not ableist.
Are all decision makers in the USA off chops or do they rely want to decimate the population willingly?
@luckytran 'masks will be allowed'? but only with a disability?
Just fuck off with that
@MatWright @luckytran Being immuno compromised is a disability so wording is still correct. Ultimately they may only require brief unmasking for security reasons.
@rejzor @MatWright @luckytran No, the wording is most certainly not correct, because everyone should be wearing masks, not just immunocompromised people. At the very least, anyone who _wants to_ should be allowed to wear a mask. And that policy certainly doesn't say that.
@jik @MatWright @luckytran I can guarantee you no one would demand you to unmask except for security checkup.
@rejzor @MatWright @luckytran And _I_ can guarantee that you are either completely missing the point here or ignoring it on purpose.
Also, I'm curious how someone from Slovenia thinks they are qualified to make "guarantees" about how things would work at something like the DNC.
You don't have to bother to answer though, because I'm blocking you now.
@jik @rejzor @MatWright @luckytran That wording is from the Accessibility section of the FAQ, so it talks about disabilities. In the Health and Safety section it says anyone can wear a mask: "The 2024 Democratic National Convention Committee adheres to current guidance from relevant public health authorities regarding COVID-19. Masking is not required at convention events, but any participant desiring to wear a mask is welcome to do so."
@MatWright @luckytran Lol, this Jik idiot blocked me in rage after just one disagreement from HIS side. Some are the exact same clowns as they were on Twitter...
