Great news: Free KN95 masks are now available from public health vending machines in NYC.
This is amazing work! Not everyone can afford to buy high quality masks regularly. If we want more people to wear masks, high quality masks should be available for free everywhere. Having them in public health vending machines in NYC is a great first step!
@luckytran Wow! That’s fantastic!!!
@luckytran Jim says there are communities in Michigan that also have kiosks. Wonder why there are none in King County, Washington state.
@luckytran Wish Vermont would do this! And every other state! #CovidIsNotOver #MaskUp
@luckytran I hope it's possible to get a naloxone for free in an emergency somehow
@luckytran Promoting to #COVID #NewYork
@luckytran Not everyone knows that N95s can.be worn multiple times. Just rest them 7 days betwern uses.
@luckytran NYC is my favorite place in the US. That they are doing this really cements that. New Yorkers rock. A little love from the great white north.
@luckytran #RebornAsAVendingMachine has some new material. #anime
Our local Walmart has no medical-grade N95s in the pharmacy department and refers inquiries to the hardware department.
The masks there are for working in dusty environments. They are labeled as N95, but some include the valves that allow easy discharge of air.
@mimarek The folks at @ProjectN95 can fix you up! https://www.projectn95.org/ #COVID19 #N95s
Thanks. I have what I need for now, but no ability to resupply locally.
@luckytran
That's a good start. My first thought was what else is in the machine. Then I wondered why only one. Anyway here is more info:
@luckytran Oh wow! This is a great initiative
And yes, they are expensive. Making them free for all though means there are no reasons for people to refuse them for financial reasons. Even the ones who can afford them can grab one. It would be nice if there was a button to make a donation to help finance this, people could, if they wanted, drop some change into the machine?
@luckytran you say "vending machines" (plural) but the only info I can find on their website is the announcement of the singular vending machine in Brooklyn from June: https://www.nyc.gov/site/doh/about/press/pr2023/health-department-launches-first-public-health-vending-machine.page
@luckytran I'm surprised posting that is still allowed on Twitter tbh
Finally, the first piece of good news in a sea of shit these days. I applaud the people who made this happen.
@luckytran Any word on the price for one?
@MizGanzer22 @luckytran I think that was covered in the word 'free'
@raphaelmorgan @luckytran ha, thank you. I read that last night when I was pretty sleepy and missed the word free! I pay about $2.50 each for the Kn94s I wear to work and I definitely grumble when ordering a box but cheaper than a stay in the hospital!
