"Rather than ceasing our shitf***ery, we tell you your only choice is to adapt to it"
Years on, @thejuicemedia's "Honest Government Ad," made after the Australia fires, remains a brilliant insight into the climate inaction of almost every country.
@luckytran @thejuicemedia Is there a way to save this ad to my phone? I would like to repost it to my Insta followers because it’s so incredibly brilliant. Please let me know!!
@jzed74 you can link to the youtube video https://youtu.be/6BmbvTvFQ3g
@jzed74 @luckytran @thejuicemedia when I double click it to open it up full screen on my iPhone, I can click that arrow next to the title in the top center and it allows me to choose to save it to files or to photos (it saves as the video)
@jzed74 @luckytran @thejuicemedia On Firefox (desktop) you can download an add-on to save videos. You could then transfer it to phone, or if you've a network drive save it to and access it there.

Alt text: A satirical "Honest Government Ad", from the time of the 2019/2020 Australian bushfires, introducing the government's new climate policy: "get fucken used to it"
@luckytran @thejuicemedia
If only Australians rioted against bullshttery like the French.
@halcionandon @luckytran @thejuicemedia
If the French riots result in Marie Le Pen taking power will you still advocate for political violence?
Australia has changed its government and taken significant #ClimateAction since their terrible season of #BushFires
@GreenFire @halcionandon @luckytran @thejuicemedia not nearly fast enough, the Labor government is still approving new coal and gas projects.
@luckytran thanks for bringing to my attention that @thejuicemedia was on mastodon, hands down my favourite youtube channel
@luckytran
Back when the climate broke
The burning and the fires' smoke
Gutted towns in holocaust
Fueled by fossils' burned exhaust
The time has come
To say fair's fair
To pay the rent
To save the air
The time has come
A fact's a fact
It belongs to all
Let's get it back
How can we dance
With our congress churning
How do we sleep
While our earth is burning
Back when the climate broke
The glaciers melted, the sea awoke
The storms and tides wiped out the shores
And led us to the climate wars
@luckytran @thejuicemedia I can see where the "NBA" of the Utopia TV series gets its advertising inspiration from :D

This reminds me *so* much of Jacinda Ardern. If she said *exactly* the same things as a Nat PM, and did *exactly* the same amount of nothing much to back them up, the left would have condemned her just like we did Teflon John. But because she was a Labour PM, so many people just lapped it up and gushed about what a wonderful spokesmodel she was. Ick : /
@luckytran @thejuicemedia It starts with us. Use cell phones that you can use longer than 1-2 years, buy clothes at the local sewing, just so the shoes from the cobbler made of genuine leather. My first pair cost 1400€, the second 1200€ is worn day after day. Keep forever with good care.
Really worth using up my precious bandwidth to view! Thanks.
@luckytran "...and die quietly."
Love their work. @thejuicemedia. @luckytran
@luckytran Not only governments… most part of the world is in denial and disbelief… and what about the commerce? Profit, profits and more profits…
@luckytran "What more do you want? We already asked China to reduce emissions."
@luckytran “Offices have heat and AC. Get back to work peasants!!”
Sad, but true.
@luckytran Labor's federal position on forestry is basically "yay ecocide!!! MUH JERBS!!!"
@luckytran Yay! for #Australian political satire. Juice Media and The Chaser know exactly what's going on!
@luckytran hahaha they don't care anything but money.
@luckytran corporations run the government not the other way around. John Dewey Was Right: American Politics Is Merely the Shadow Cast by Big Business

Same with pandemics. Convenient population reductions, to the rich.
In the US alone, there are 107 million Americans living under extreme heat warnings. This week.
Getting used to an extinction level event is not an option.
Class action lawsuits against oil companies funding climate denialism is a viable option.
@Npars01 @luckytran As an environmental organization which leans heavily on litigation, we're concerned about the climate class action suits. Even if tactically sound, legal strategy now has to consider the deep corruption of SCOTUS. You want to be very careful about what issues you leave subject to appeal because they may be decided by Clarence Thomas.
#KochNetwork has purchased the Supreme Court of the US but not the courts in every democracy,...yet.
The UK, Israel and Hungary's courts are under attack by right wing zealots funded by the oil industry and its financiers.
The environmental agencies of other nations are too heavily influenced by oil industry shills, but litigation is still possible in most democracies, for the moment.
Expanding the Supreme Court of the US could save the planet from frying.
@Npars01 @luckytran Aye. We have consistent success at lower courts, but we keep litigation tight so appellate courts only get technical questions. Ambitious litigation runs the risk of letting SCOTUS not only close legal questions in an anti-climate way, but also roll back existing tools.
In other words: the courts won't save us so we'd better think about other levers of power.
Rachel Maddow & Peter Strzok in their interviews often advocate for a multiple-front whole-of-society response to the growing anti-democracy movement funded by Republican billionaire donors.
Democracies beat fascists before.
WW2 showed how joint unified responses can win, but only if moneyed conservatives are not in office.
Hitler's heirs would be running Europe now, if FDR hadn't won the presidency and a renegade conservative hadn't become prime minister in the UK.

The battle to save democracy and the planet from the oil industry isn't over yet, unfortunately we don't have decades available for a litigation-only strategy.
