Dr. Lucky Tran :verified:

"We have to learn to live with climate change"

"We have to learn to live with the virus"

See a pattern?

@luckytran Only a pattern of dead people and ruined countryside. Hard to believe it's been 125,000 years since it was that hot. Humans have barely been alive as a species that long...

@luckytran "We have to learn to consume Soylent Green."

@luckytran I would like to learn to live with fewer billionaires.

@luckytran
"We have to learn to live with the fact that billionaires die under increasingly suspicious circumstances." :blobcat_mlem:

@luckytran @lisamelton

“We have to learn to live with equal rights”

Let’s see how that plays out…

@luckytran We are having to live with the blatant stupidity of millions of Americans!!

@luckytran In all fairness, every day we ask the next generation to live with the totality of our mistakes. They are the ones left holding the bag, realistically. Sorry kiddos, there's going to be lots to get used to.

@luckytran Yes.

The pattern: "I don't want to do the difficult, transformative, money-expending things it will take to make this stop. My convenience and wealth are more important than others'/the planet's survival."

Greed is a helluva drug.

@luckytran "we have to learn to live with less yachts" -- WHAT NO NEVER!!!

@luckytran

For many people, it translates to "you have to learn to live with being dead, or friends and family being dead"

@luckytran
In both cases the people saying it actually do not mean "learn to live with" but mean "ignore".

@luckytran

certaily, we the pip are not going to do anything about it, because would affect our pockets and power ...

but thoughts and prayers ...

🤡🤡🤡

@luckytran People's willingness "to learn to live with it" is the reason why history is dotted with so many horrifying periods.

@luckytran This mindset has/is hurting & killing far too many people. Many of us disabled & immunocompromised are now treated like our lives don't matter. It seems govt & many of our fellow citizens don't care at all if we die or become sicker from covid & long covid related illnesses or if we suffer from increasing climate crisis/extreme weather health issues.

@luckytran I mean, both statements are true, learning to live with usually means to make precautions and adapt to it. It does not mean that we just let it kill us.

@yatil @luckytran well, we let it kill "some" of us, those we deem as acceptable deaths.

@luckytran @yatil right, we adapted, but didn't the virus kill some of us? I thought that's the pattern it refers to.
