tl;dr 1) latte and jazz, 2) write for 2 h/day or between 5 and 8 am.
I was hoping for a few more insights into other people's writing rituals from this article.
@steveroyle
Not that insightful & gives an air of such serenity when writing a grant.
My reality is nothing like this at all!
I squeeze in chunks of time when I can around other commitments (including family & clinical job) and also write ideas / revise text on whatever device I have to hand, phone included.
To me, #cloudcomputing is actually the key to getting any grant done!!!

@gpollara @academicchatter I wouldn't say that's my norm, but yes: at a soft-play centre or poolside while a swimming lesson is happening… sometimes you just have to grab what time you can!

I find Parker Derrington’s “key sentence skeleton” approach* for grant writing useful, it helps me spot when <why/how/why me> arguments are weak. Sticking to the formulaic sentence structure makes for rather stiff writing in the first drafts, but without weasel words to hide behind I am quicker to admit to myself that an idea is unlikely to get funded - before spending hours hammering out the details.
