Hey , any thoughts on using Guppee Groups (a.gup.pe) as an alternative to the Communities function on the bird app? Once a group is created you toot @(group name) and it keeps track of all related toots.

Another option would be subscribing to hashtags so they show up in your feed. @nick I think I heard this is a feature in a coming update to mastodon. Any insight?

@gjsprague @nick I know I can pin them in the web application. Not the app as far as I know. Or I just haven't figured it out. Would be interested in the group thing you mentioned

@zainsyed @nick I currently have a few pinned on the web app as well. The nice thing about the Guppee Groups is you subscribe to the group like any other user and all the content will show up in your feed. Could have one for MedMastodon, Gastrodon, etc.

@gjsprague @nick Very interesting how would that be different than the local timeline?

@zainsyed @nick local timeline shows you everything being talked about on your instance (e.g. everything on med-mastodon). Guppee groups act like hashtags where only things tagged w/ that topic show up. However, you can’t “follow” a # and have updates show up in your home timeline (for now). If you follow a guppee group whenever someone tags that group all followers see it in their timelines.
