Do you want to you be cared for by an NP (<1K hrs training) or an ED doc(10-16K hrs)?

A 3-year study documents worse outcomes & higher costs with NPs. Accdg to the paper, in 44 VA EDs, "we find that, on avg, NPs use more resources but achieve worse patient outcomes relative to MDs."

In fact, NPs, caring for pts w/o MD supervision, raised⬆️30-day preventable hospitalizations by 20%‼️vs ED docs. Hospital administrators pls take note!

@cbarbermd this is kind of self-promoting! An MD Affirms that MD's are better.... Gee, who woulda thought... Who funded/sponsored this one study, the AMA?

@cbarbermd
Whenever I have received decent or better care, it was an NP. I specifically request NPs whenever possible.

@melvin Good to hear. Some are very good.

@cbarbermd What’s ED and NP? Dont know anything bout American hesltcare system.
