“Study after study has revealed the immense potential. One, by Deloitte for the World Economic Forum, concluded that a transition to #NetZero could benefit the world economy by $43 trillion over the next five decades.
A commission of some of the world’s top businesspeople and financiers decided that similar measures could create 380 million jobs. And a report by top European institutes calculated that it could lift 3-4 billion people out of poverty.” https://mastodon.social/@glynmoody/111522897089854446
I worked around a lot of smart people over the years and always found it curious (and frustrating) we were not leveraging more of that brain power for this issue.
I put it down to what I think of as a type of monomania: we are all so wrapped up in our own crap and its viability, we have little left to give to the planet’s viability. And/or, we feel our own stuff just too important to sacrifice for anything else.
Everyone racing along in their own little channel.
@f800gecko Richard Dawkins spoke to something like this some time ago. We evolved in a macro environment and so our brains are designed to help us cope with threats in that environment. Anything mega (or micro-nano) requires Type 2 thinking… and we are evolved to eschew that.
In saying that a lot of smart people have been leveraging their brain power. Unfortunately a number of powerful people have been leveraging their power.
