+ are . Full stop. One of the hardest things I see as a for are the catastrophic health outcomes when a child becomes ill enough to admit to the hospital due to an entirely preventable condition. Equipment + medications should be accessible to all children, esp those w/complex medical needs. It’s infuriating that systems create this and heartbreaking to see the impact on kids. We must continue to build better systems.

@KimMukerjee it’s infuriating that this conversation has to be had. But I would take this one step further and say that health insurance isn’t a human right, but universal FREE medical care. When I had appendicitis when I was in the US, I was billed $45k for the surgery and hospitalization. If it’s done in Ontario, the government is billed for about $4500. As a Canadian, it just boggles my mind.

@Shireen you are absolutely right. Universal access to healthcare is a human right. It’s a shame that one of the biggest barriers to that is health insurance. Thank you for sharing your story.
