If you’re against the use of AI for environmental reasons, I have a question for you:

From the estimates I’ve found, one text prompt generates about 4.32 grams of CO₂e.

On the other hand, a single serving of steak (100g) is responsible for 4.27 kg CO₂e.

By my math, you would have to send about 988 prompts to equal the carbon emissions of one steak. (For reference, one 100g serving of tofu is 0.0982 kg CO₂e.)

My genuine question to anyone who cares about the environment: if you haven’t already, what’s holding you back from making the switch to plant-based eating?

I've been experimenting with Zero Waste pattern cutting. And I do love a work jacket. And when I saw this twill fabric on Mood, I just *had* to make something out of it.

This is the Zero Waste Workwear Jacket by Birgitta Helmersson and it is now my favorite jacket.

A boxy, oversized jacket hanging in front of a white door. The jacket has a collar, large cuffs at the wrists, tortoiseshell colored buttons on the front and three patch pockets. Two of the pockets are on the bottom and one is on the chest. The jacket has dropped shoulders and the sleeves are gathered at the back. The fabric is army green with large print of botanicals in other shades of green; orange butterflies; red mushrooms; pink, blue and white flowers; and white snails, ravens, and bears.

3 good things:

1) a couple years ago i bought a stovetop water distiller. it's stainless steel and can also be　used as a double boiler, stock pot and to render fat in.

it's *fantastic*! i use it on my single eye induction burner and i can get a gallon of water every 3-4 hours as well as humidify my house.

2) my perennials survived the winter! this is my third year experimenting with perennials in bins with lids over winter and they're doing amazing now that they're out of the garage and on my porch.

3) got some more degoogling done today. i'm deleting (backed up) photos from the cloud and it's been a fun trip down memory lane.

man, i save so many memes, lol.

This isn't a promotion or anything, but with all the greenwash nonsense out there trying to convince you to buy more unnecessary stuff in the name of sustainability I'm going to take a moment to rave about these resuable silicone tub tops I got which genuinely usefully meet a real need (and yes it's sad that that feels so unusual!)

A tub of yoghurt and a tub of hummus with reusable silicone lids on. These ones come from a company called Moopops (we're in the UK)

Będzie wysyp fajnych maszyn dla Linuksa. Nie wyrzucaj, reinstaluj i używaj dalej.
To pójście ekosystemu Windows w stronę ekosystemu Androida. Producenci nie dostarczają nowej wersji OS, więc musisz kupić nowy telefon.
Jakimś dziwnym sposobem autorzy innych dystrybucji Android potrafią dostarczyć na te telefony nowe wersje. Przykładem LineageOs i wiele jego pochodnych, w tym mój ulubiony /e/Os.

Microsoft pozazdrościł producentom telefonów i próbuje tego samego z pecetami. Wyrzucić 3-letni fajny sprzęt i kupić nowy? Niedoczekanie.

Pamiętaj, kilkuletnie maszyny, czy to telefon, laptop czy blaszak, świetnie działają, można je naprawić, rozbudować, wymienić baterie, dodać ram czy szybszy dysk. Czy przeinstalować system operacyjny.

Sam na co dzień pracuję na laptopie, który ma ładnych kilka lat, dołożoną pamięć, nowy dysk, stację dokującą i 2 dodatkowe monitory. To samo telefony i tablety (mam ich kilka, ze względu na pracę). Drugi, zapasowy ThinkPad jest jeszcze starszy i świetnie działa (oba na linuksie). Podobnie serwer w domowym labie to starsza, świetna maszyna.

Nie daj się robić w balona.

For something so simple I sure did take my time with it! I think I finished sewing at the end of last year (it's already on the 2024 makes post...) but did not make the buttonholes or add the buttons until the last few weeks.

Made from a thrifted duvet cover and is more of a wearable toile. For the next one I want to get a narrower width, longer top and not so low cut neckline.

The making itself was fairly painless, especially since I used Birgitta's tutorials on her blog to sew some of the trickier bits. Opted out of using the offcuts for reinforcement as that felt like unnecessary waff. I've already plans to make a blouse version of this too!

Feeling brave today and wearing this to work to see how it works in the day-to-day.
