Sebastiaan Ammerlaan 🇳🇱A birthday present I got. I wanted a stencil for <a href="https://pixey.org/discover/tags/sashiko?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#sashiko</a>. (I'm bad at drawing grids, especially on fabric.) This was what I got—the local sewing shop apparently recommended it. <br> <br> You use a hot needle to poke holes into the plastic, then I pinned it to my fabric and used a heat-erase pen to draw dots. I started out going row by row but then thought of a different strategy, as I'm connecting the dots with a ruler, anyway. <br> <br> Promising results, so far! Though the hot needle poking part was a bit tedious. <br> <br> <a href="https://pixey.org/discover/tags/sewing?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#sewing</a> <a href="https://pixey.org/discover/tags/diy?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#diy</a> <a href="https://pixey.org/discover/tags/visiblemending?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#visiblemending</a> <a href="https://pixey.org/discover/tags/embroidery?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#embroidery</a> <a class="u-url" href="https://pixey.org/@sewing@a.gup.pe" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@sewing@a.gup.pe</a>
Sini Tuulia<p>Have been smoothing my wrinkled brain by doing a little bit of elaborate mending. The ratio of patch to original garment on this old skirt continues being in flux! Just slapped on offcuts of the hat facing fabric, went around with machine stitching, and attached floppy bits with hand embroidery.</p><p><a href="https://eldritch.cafe/tags/VisibleMending" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>VisibleMending</span></a> <a href="https://eldritch.cafe/tags/Mending" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Mending</span></a> <a href="https://eldritch.cafe/tags/Sewing" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Sewing</span></a></p>
Sini Tuulia<p>A little bit earlier today, this second hand shirt took a couple more steps towards being more patch than shirt... But it's a good shirt! It's amazing how much more worn the right sleeve is, what do I even do to cause it??</p><p><a href="https://eldritch.cafe/tags/VisibleMending" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>VisibleMending</span></a> <a href="https://eldritch.cafe/tags/Linen" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Linen</span></a></p>
Al ⁂<p>Years of kids putting their feet on the arm of the couch wore the edge out. Nothing you can’t fix with a needle and thread. We still have some patches to make in the seat leather but that’s another project.</p><p>The cushion in the background is made from a reused woollen blanket.</p><p><a href="https://sunbeam.city/tags/visiblemending" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>visiblemending</span></a></p>
Lisa 🦔<p>Successful <a href="https://flipping.rocks/tags/visibleMending" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>visibleMending</span></a> day here! My best little terrierist (Puck) likes to dig when he nests himself into a cozy spot. And his favourite cozy spots are my spots whenever I get up. So my favourite reading chair had the fabric full worn through on the seat. No problem! </p><p>I got a scrap of off-white denim in a thrifted fabric bundle recently that wasn’t large enough for anything other than patches. So I cut some random long leaf shapes and sewed them on with a feather stitch using up random colours of thread spools that were nearly empty. </p><p>The extra patches that I didn’t need this time, I simply bundled up and tucked them inside the cushion cover* on the underside so they would be available whenever Puck inevitable strikes again.</p><p>Voila! Zero waste repair that keeps an otherwise great piece of furniture out of the landfill and uses up scraps that would otherwise be thrown away. </p><p>*sofa cushions: not just for hiding pharmaceuticals and funds!</p>
