I’m sat on Whinny Hill enjoying the solitude, surrounded by sweet smelling gorse flowers, while everyone else flocks to the slightly higher summit of Arthur’s Seat.

I’m reminded of coming up here 5 years ago at the start of lockdown, trying to scramble up to St. Anthony’s Chapel without touching the rocks, as we didn’t know then if the virus was spread by contact. Didn’t have the rumble of traffic or the babble of tourists then.

Each spring we await the arrival to the dale of small flocks of Lesser Turismo; a non-breeding summer visitor.

There are theories that they winter around the Mediterranean, and, like many of their species, can be seen eating chips and annoying the locals.

They make their way slowly along, sometimes disturbed and scattered into the side of the road by a fast moving resident Landus Roverus or it's larger, less common relative, the Range Roverus.
