Jede Menge ThinkPad Aura Edition Updates

Dear #ThinkPad enthusiasts, does anyone know whether the display from a T460s would be usable on a T460 (without s)?
Still got a T460 which only works with an external display, but have a T460s that I got for the spare parts...
Participated in the Undefined hacker's festival and have a speech about my modded #Thinkpad X220.
Looks like I'm not only like to write enormously big blogposts. But also I'm able to make an enormously big presentations — my limit was 30 minutes and (looks like) my presentation was made for 1.5 hours, so @nikhotmsk stopped my endless speech
It was a lot of fun. First, I fixed the lamp, when came to the place. Then, I perform the presentation in the #Emacs through the VGA cable. Looks like it was unshielded, so a lot of cool video-noise from a DJ's devices were visible on the projector's screen during the presentation.
At least, I spoke something about WiFi drivers in #FreeBSD and about #Xserver before my time was out
Also, I met one of the fedifriends IRL. Sadly, I forgot to ask about his username, so if you are reading this — please mention me in the replies
@Em0nM4stodon I'm excited about new tech; I upgraded my #thinkpad W530 to T480. I can now lug my laptop around with less effort, and the battery last longer than the five minutes W530 had.
And I also decided to go wild and install #debian instead of #archlinux and this feels pretty good.
On top of that I'm getting rid of #iphone to go back fully on #sailfishos phone. That done my phone will mostly work with my other stuff instead of against everything. Good riddance walled garden
@technomancy I see you are a person,of culture as well...
#ThinkpadT470s #Tastaturwechsel erfolgreich durchgeführt.
Mal luschern, wann ich Kleckerhannes die nächste #Tastatur in’ Mors krich…
I was recently reminded why I love my #ThinkPad
The day before a trip I was able to fix a hardware issue myself using just:
A phillips-head screwdriver
The Lenovo PC Diagnostics app
An iFixit guide
30 minutes
I had been seeing some screen flickering over the last few weeks but dismissed it as random glitches. And of course, the evening before a trip, while checking the battery charge;
BLEEP BAAP BOOP
A loud, ominous series of beeps announced, that we wouldn't make it to the boot screen.
"Great fucking timing", I thought, as I started searching for the meaning of the beeps. I soon learned of the Lenovo PC Diagnostics app's existence, which quickly identified the cause of the unpleasant fanfare: "Computer display error. Reconnect the display cable [...]"
20 minutes, 1 iFixIt guide and a few screw turns later I had successfully dis- and reconnected the display cable and the computer booted normally. Amazing!
Giving OpenBSD and Xfce another go on the laptop, but I think I'll go back to OpenSUSE until FreeBSD 15 is released 4Q25. Too many paper cuts for now...
hw-probe for the ThinkPad X1 Carbon 5th:
Doing some testing with #ThinkPad this week to see how long-lasting they are. Spoilers, they outlast Windows XP, Vista, 7 and 10.
This is why I love these machines. Video to follow.
#ThinkPadThursday #PC #Linux
Third surprise: the seller said in the description that one of the two batteries of the #ThinkPad X270 had reached end of life, but didn't say which. I feared it was the internal one, because an alert was constantly popping up saying I must replace the battery, and I didn't want to open the machine.
Happily, I just confirmed it was the external one. Great, because I swapped it for the one I had in the X240 — still at 85% of its original capacity. Now I have quite the long-lasting ThinkPad.
Why have I never seen someone using a 2-in1 laptop in this position?? It's always fully folded back or in tent mode, never vents-up or overhanging like this.
Got an old #Thinkpad and this position seems p great for #floorlife
Moin!
ThinkPad T480 on FreeBSD 14.3:
- iGPU (Intel): Working!
- dGPU (Nvidia): Working!
- WebCam (integrated): Working!
- Thunderbolt 4 Dock (external Display and USB): Working!
- Intel AX210 5GhZ WiFi: Working!
- External USB headsets: Working!
- Hardware Video-Decoding (vaapi): Working!
That is a perfectly usable setup and the Laptop is just about perfect to a BSD based desktop!
FreeBSD 14.3 on ThinkPad T480 with Thunderbolt docked external display and native iwlwifi 5Ghz Wifi with proper speeds. Running KDE Plasma 6.4 with X11
Amazing, how far we have come in 2025 for a proper FreeBSD desktop experience!!
Wo kauft ihr heute eure refurbished #thinkpad s ohne Windows Geld in den Rachen dafür zu werfen?
