Arriva Group has completed a £17m electrification project at its Norwood depot in South #London. The upgraded facility will support 30 new zero-emission Enviro400EV double deckers on key #TfL routes, including a new #Superloop line linking London’s suburbs with the city centre. Delivered with Zenobē, the project includes 15 smart chargers and power upgrades, supporting the Mayor’s goal for a zero-emission bus fleet by 2030. Arriva’s Zero Emission Institute (ZEI) contributed knowledge and expertise, with learnings shared across European operations. This initiative is part of Arriva’s wider electrification programme in London depots including Croydon, Enfield, and Tottenham. Alexander Dennis supplied the buses, each covered by a 14-year battery warranty and equipped with AD Connect telematics. The investment highlights Arriva’s commitment to clean, reliable public transport and ongoing collaboration with PTAs to deliver sustainable urban mobility.

#TfL has clarified that the X80 bus service, operated by Ensignbus, has not been granted permission to use the Silvertown Tunnel for diversions. The route does not hold a London Service Permit, and no permits or authorisations have been applied for or issued in relation to this route. TfL also confirmed it holds no correspondence, applications, or approvals concerning the X80’s operation through the tunnel.

#Transport for #London Freedom of Information release:
#TfL is reimbursed annually by London boroughs for Freedom Pass travel (excluding cable cars and Santander Cycles), with payments made quarterly. The 2025/26 settlement totals £307.782 million and is based on a model that considers a two-year journey average, fares, inflation, and service changes. TfL does not hold specific data on journeys made by disabled Freedom Pass holders in Epsom, Ewell, Ashtead, or Leatherhead. Journey-level data from Oyster cards is retained only for 8–9 weeks and does not reliably distinguish between standard and disabled pass use. Approximately 17% of Freedom Pass journeys are made by disabled users. TfL typically relies on network-wide figures across London rather than individual route analysis when calculating settlements.

#Transport for #London will begin major works on the A23 Streatham Hill from 4 August to improve walking, cycling and bus travel. The scheme, in partnership with Lambeth Council, includes new pedestrian crossings, a protected cycle lane, better pavements and enhanced bus lanes. Lane closures between Brixton Hill and Sternhold Avenue will lead to delays, with overnight closures on 3 and 4 August. Buses will run their usual routes but may face diversions or temporary stop changes. This first phase runs until autumn, with work continuing until spring 2027. TfL aims to improve safety and accessibility while minimising disruption. In a consultation, 70% of respondents said the scheme would make walking safer, and 83% said the same for cycling. #TfL will monitor traffic and work with bus operators to manage impacts, supported by clear travel advice and ongoing local engagement.

#Transport for #London Freedom of Information release:
Following a pilot in 2020 and initial rollout in 2022, #TfL has expanded 4G/5G coverage across the Underground. As of July 2025, many sections of the Central, Jubilee, Piccadilly, Bakerloo, Victoria, and Northern lines have coverage. The Elizabeth line has full coverage since December 2024. Rollout continues through 2025-26, with 10 stations—such as Holloway Road, Moorgate, and Battersea Power Station—due by December 2025, and 21 more including Marylebone, Victoria, and Liverpool Street by June 2026. Coverage will also extend to other Tube parts, DLR, and Windrush line. Due to overnight work and engineering challenges, some delays occur. Monthly updates are on TfL’s website. TfL is working with Boldyn Networks to finish swiftly.

#Transport for #London Freedom of Information release:
#TfL confirmed that the cost of Irizar IE trams per bus is embedded within the route 358 contract and is exempt from disclosure due to commercial sensitivity. Information on breakdowns, towing incidents, and costs is held by the bus operator, Metrobus Ltd (Go-Ahead London), not TfL. Route 358 has been operated by Metrobus under a contract awarded in December 2019 for £4.83 million annually, using new electric buses including the IE tram vehicles. TfL emphasises the public interest in value for money outweighs full cost transparency in this case.

#Transport for #London Freedom of Information release:
#TfL aims to achieve a 100% zero-emission (ZE) bus fleet by 2034, though with significant funding this could be brought forward to 2030. Key challenges include power availability at garages and limited capacity for charging and parking. TfL does not directly manage diesel bus redeployment — this is the responsibility of bus operators, who may use the buses elsewhere in the UK. Retrofitting diesel buses to electric is a potential solution, but the choice of technology for each route (battery-electric, hydrogen, or repowered vehicles) lies with operators. TfL continues to work with them to assess where hydrogen fuel cell buses, like those on route 7, may be suitable based on garage location and route characteristics.

In preparation for a trip to #London this fall, I downloaded the excellent #TfL Go app, which gives complete up-to-the-minute status of London Transport… and I discovered that London Transport is, for lack of a more delicate word, totally fucked. Points failures, fires, staff shortages, line closures, train cancellations, faulty equipment.
Can’t wait.

#Transport for #London Freedom of Information release:
#TfL confirms that NIBSbuses do not hold a London Service Permit (LSP) for route 269, and no changes have been made to relevant policies or enforcement. Although a 2023 investigation made no progress, TfL will now look into the matter urgently. The B186 in North Ockendon is not exempt from the LSP scheme. All public roads within Greater London require services not part of the official London bus network to operate with an LSP—no public roads are exempt.

#Transport for #London Freedom of Information release:

A recent FOI request sought details on the "Red Bus Moquette," including any variants and specifications related to vehicle interiors, especially connections to the New Routemaster bus design. The request referenced a previous document mentioning the moquette and asked for any additional information held by TfL. #TfL responded that, aside from the already published document, they do not hold any further information or records relating to the Red Bus Moquette or its design influences. The request was received on 10 June 2025, and the response was issued on 3 July 2025.

#Transport for #London Freedom of Information release:
Fare evasion across #TfL services cost an estimated £130m in 2022/23, £190m in 2023/24, and £188m in 2024/25. Data for 2025/26 is expected later this year. Fare evasion remains a major concern, with highest estimated rates in 2022/23 seen on Trams (8%) and the lowest on Buses (1.9%). TfL has deployed over 500 revenue inspectors using technology and intelligence-led operations to tackle the issue. Fare evasion is a criminal offence, punishable by fines of up to £1,000 and a criminal record. Successful prosecutions reached 15,436 in 2022/23, 18,570 in 2023/24, 13,823 in 2024/25, and 2,088 up to June 2025. TfL is working towards halving fare evasion by 2030, highlighting links between non-payment, antisocial behaviour, and wider criminality.

Today marks 25 years since the formation of the Greater #London Authority (GLA) and #Transport for London (TfL).

This follows 14 years after the abolition of the Greater London Council, with #TfL taking over from London Regional Transport, which had been under government control since 29 June 1984.

In addition, London Regional Transport retained responsibility for the London Underground, as its transfer was delayed until July 2003 due to its reorganisation under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP), as part of the government's policy in an attempt to upgrade and modernise the system. London Underground Limited then became an indirect subsidiary of TfL. London Regional Transport was subsequently dissolved on 16 July 2003.

#Transport for #London Freedom of Information release:
The cost of the Freedom Pass scheme is calculated using the "Revenue Forgone" method, estimating the fare revenue that would have been received without the free travel concession. Journeys on all #TfL services, including buses and the London Underground, are counted with average fares applied per mode. Trips unlikely to occur without the scheme are excluded. Additional costs related to bus services are included.

For 2025/26, the Freedom Pass Concessionary settlement paid by London Boroughs was just under £308 million. Separate administrative costs for the scheme are borne by the boroughs and are not included in this figure.
